PurposeBased on the clinical data of 189 patients with benign airway stenosis and the comprehensive treatment through respiratory endoscopy, the clinical characteristics, treatment plan, and treatment effect were analyzed to optimize the interventional treatment strategy for benign airway stenosis.MethodThis retrospective study include 189 patients with benign airway stenosis at First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University from December 2016 to December 2019.The demographic characteristics, etiology, location, treatment and complications were analyzed, and the therapeutic effect was evaluated by comparing the degree of airway stenosis, dyspnea index, and KPS score.Result1.Demographic characteristics: among 189 patients with benign airway stenosis,78 were male and 111 were female. The ratio of males to females was 1:1.42,the ages ranged from 12-81 years, and the average age was 38.80 ± 16.23 years.2.Benign airway stenosis site:a total of 279 stenosis sites were found in 189 patients, most of which were in the central airway,149 patients(53.41%)in total.Lesions in the right bronchus were more than those in the left bronchus, and 65 patients(34.39%)had stenosis in two or more sites at the same time.3.Etiological composition : Among the 189 patients with benign airway stenosis, the most common cause was bronchial tuberculosis, with 131 cases(69.31%),followed by:post-intubation trachel stenosis and post tracheostomy tracheal stenosis,a total of 26patients(13.76%),18 cases of benign tumors of the airway(9.52%),and 14 cases of bronchial foreign bodies(7.41%).4.Treatment:According to preoperative evaluation and tracheal endoscopic findings, the appropriate treatment was selected.Over the study period,914 therapeutic procedures were performed, with an average of 4.84 ± 2.40 times.Monotherapy was used for 297cases(32.49%),and the remaining 617 cases(67.51%)were combined with two or more treatments. After treatment, the degree of airway stenosis,KPS score and dyspnea index were all improved to different degrees, and no serious complications occurred.ConclusionBenign airway stenosis was more common in women than men,and was more common in the central airway. The right airway stenosis was more common than the left airway. In our country, bronchial tuberculosis is the main cause of the benign airway stenosis, followed by post-intubation trachel stenosis and post tracheostomy tracheal stenosis. The treatment of benign airway stenosis by tracheal endoscopic intervention often requires multiple methods and multiple times of treatment. After treatment, the airway stenosis can be quickly removed and the symptoms of the patients can be relieved, and create strong conditions for subsequent treatment to a certain extent, which is worthy of clinical promotion.
