Objective: To evaluate the correlation between the degree of lens opacity measured by LOCSⅢ and Pentacam and the best corrected visual acuity(BCVA)in age-related nuclear cataract. Methods: From december 2018 to november 2019,78(95 eyes)of age-related nuclear cataract patients were selected from the Fourth Hospital of China Medical University(Shenyang,Liaoning Province),including 40 males and 38 females. The average age of patients was 68.28 ± 5.47 years. All subjects received and signed written informed consent prior to testing. The research adhered to the Declaration of Helsinki and was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University(No.2015-029).The selected patients were examined by slit lamp and Pentacam respectively after full pupil dilatation. The relationship between the degree of lens opacity measured by LOCSⅢ and Pentacam and the best corrected visual acuity BCVA(LogMAR)measured before mydriasis was analyzed.SPSS 21.0 statistical analysis software was used for data statistical analysis,The correlation between lens density,LOCSⅢ grading value and BCVA(LogMAR)was calculated by Spearman correlation coefficient. The data were expressed as mean standard deviation,P < 0.05 was statistically significant. Results: 78 patients(95 eyes)with nuclear age-related cataract were evaluated.Classification score of LOCSⅢ evaluation system: NO score was 3.88±1.20 and NC score was 3.83±1.24.The mean lens density was 22.91±6.31 by Pentacam. The median of the best corrected visual acuity was 0.7(0.5,1.0)LogMAR.The lens density measured by Pentacam, the NO and NC scores obtained by LOCSⅢ evaluation system were positively correlated with BCVA(LogMAR)(r = 0.928,0.801,0.807 respectively;P <0.05),while the lens density measured by Pentacam was more correlated with BCVA(LogMAR).Conclusion: In the patients with nuclear age-related cataract, there was a correlation between the visual acuity and the degree of lens opacity represented by the lens density and the NO and NC scores of LOCSⅢ evaluation system. The lens density measured byPentacam can better reflect the degree of visual impairment in patients with nuclear cataract.
