BackgroundToday, depressive symptoms have become a common mental disorder. The incidence of depressive symptoms is increasing year by year, and tumor patients are more vulnerable to psychological and physical shocks and prone to depressive symptoms.Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is a common malignant tumor derived from the nasopharyngeal mucosa. And China is a country with a high incidence of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. It has a certain geographical distribution and is relatively common in Guangdong,Guangxi, and Hunan.Because nasopharyngeal cancer has a special onset location, difficult surgical intervention, and pathological types are more sensitive to radiation, its main treatment method is radiation therapy.During the treatment, patients often experience adverse reactions such as weight loss and malnutrition.Greatly affect the efficacy and prognosis of patients.ObjectiveThe main purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of pre-radiotherapy depression on the nutritional status of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma who received radiation therapy.MethodsA total of 77 patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma who met the inclusion criteria were included. Before the patient’s radiotherapy, all patients were evaluated by the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale(HAD).According to the HAD score ≥8,the patients were divided into a depression group and a non-depression group. The nutritional status of the depression group(n=32)and the non-depression group(n=45)were observed and evaluated before radiotherapy and at the end of radiotherapy. And analyze the impact of depression on the nutritional status of patients.ResultsIn this study,we found that about 41.6% of patients had depressive symptoms before radiotherapy. The average serum albumin and hemoglobin levels of patients in the depression group after radiotherapy were significantly lower than the non-depression group(38.5 vs 41.0 mg / dL,P=0.045;108.3 vs.111.6 g / L,P=0.041).At the end of treatment patients in the depression group were more likely to lose weight > 5%,BMI <18.5,and NRS2002 score ≥3(75.0% vs 33.3%,P = 0.001;28.1% vs 8.9%,P=0.026;46.9% vs 17.8 %,P=0.006).ConclusionThe status of depressive pre-radiation in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma are closely related to the nutritional status.Pre-treatment depressive symptoms may be used as predictors of malnutrition of radiotherapy. |
