Objective:The objective of this study was collected CT images of Han and Uygur people,measured the foramen magnum sagittal diameter and traverse diameter,and obtained the foramen magnum area by the formula.To analyze the correlation between the foramen magnum and the gender discrimination of the two nationalities,and to establish their gender discriminating functions.In order to obtain new sex determination equations and accumulate anatomical data.Methods:According to the inclusion and exclusion criteria,we examined 385 consensual patients,aged between 20 and 80 years old,from the Medical Imaging Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University.FM measurements(sagittal,transverse)were obtained from reformatted axial sections using helical CT scan.And the area of foramen magnum was calculated by the formula.By comparing the gender differences of each measurement indexes,the ROC curve is drawn and the accuracy rate of gender determination is calculated by discriminant analysis and binary logistic regression analysis.Results:There was normal distribution in each measurement indexes of foramen magnum.And there was statistical difference between Han and Uighur people(P<0.05).But no significant difference between Han and Uygur people in the same gender(P>0.05).There was significant difference between Toutal area and Teixeira area(P<0.05).Through the approaches of discriminant analysis,the accuracy rate of Han nationality is 63.6%(male 67.6%,female 58.5%),and that of Uygur nationality is 63.2%(male 63.6%,female 62.8%).Through the approaches of binary logistic regression and ROC curve,the foramen magnum sagittal diameter is the best gender identification in the foramen magnum of Han nationality,with a correct rate of 61.8%;the foramen magnum traverse diameter is the best gender identification index in the foramen magnum of Uygur nationality,with a correct rate of 62.4%.Conclusion:The foramen magnum is a better gender identificationl index for the Han and Uygur people inXinjiang,which can be combined with other sex determination indexes to increase the accuracy of sex determination.
