Objective:Comparison of two surgical methods for the treatment of humeral shaft fractures with interlocking intramedullary nails and plate fixation. Methods:Patients with humeral shaft fractures treated between July 2018 and August 2019 were strictly divided into the bone plate group(10 cases)and the interlocking intramedullary nail group(8 cases)by using random number table method and according to the exclusion criteria strictly. To compare the efficacy of the two treatment methods in the operation time, intraoperative blood loss, fracture healing time, postoperative related complications, elbow joint(Mayo)function score, and shoulder(Neer)function score. Results:All 18 patients received satisfactory treatment results. The operation time and intraoperative blood loss of the group with interlocking intramedullary nails were better than those of the bone plate group. There was no significant difference in postoperative infection and iatrogenic radial nerve injury between the two groups(P> 0.05).At the same time, there was no significant difference in fracture healing time between the two groups of patients(P> 0.05).At the last follow-up,the Mayo score of the elbow joint between the intramedullary interlocking nail group and the bone plate group was not statistically significant(P> 0.05);while at the last follow-up,the Neer shoulder score was better than the interlocking intramedullary nail group in the bone plate group. The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion: Both interlocking intramedullary nails and bone plates can achieve satisfactory treatment results for the treatment of humeral shaft fractures. Both surgical methods have theirown advantages. The appropriate surgical method should be selected according to the specific conditions of clinical patients.
