Objective: To compare the correlation between inflammatory cells mainly composed of eosinophils and asthma in inflammatory cells and nasal polyps in peripheral blood of patients through the statistics of the number and proportion of inflammatory cells in peripheral blood of patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps(CRSwNP)combined with asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps without asthma and histopathological study of nasal polyps. And to investigate the effect of asthma on inflammatory cells infiltration of peripheral blood and nasal polyps in patients with CRSwNP.Methods: All the patients are admitted to the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, the First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University, and who underwent endoscopic surgery for chronic rhinosinusitis with polyps were selected according to symptoms and preoperative pulmonary function and bronchial dilation. The results of the trial included 21 patients with a definite diagnosis of asthma, and 56 patients without asthma were randomized for comparison. All patients were bilateral nasal polyps, and the preoperative CT assessment of patients with polyps was roughly the same.Standardized treatment of patients one week before surgery.Preoperative treatment includes saline flushing nasal cavity, antibiotic treatment, nasal spray hormone,mucus-promoting agent. The inflammatory cells were counted by fasting blood sampling before operation, and the inhaled allergens were measured by fasting blood test before operation. The nasal polyp specimens were taken for HE staining, and the inflammatory cells mainly composed of eosinophils were counted under high magnification. And counting the secondary and multiple endoscopic surgery of all patients.Statistical analysis of the data was performed using SPSS 17.0 software. Results: The percentage of peripheral blood eosinophils in the CRSwNP-associated asthma group was higher than that in the CRSwNP-free asthma group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the percentage of peripheral blood lymphocytes and neutrophils between the two groups. There was no significant difference in the absolute values and percentages of the total number of eosinophils, plasma cells, lymphocytes, neutrophils and inflammatory cells between the two groups.Theproportion of patients with asthma complicated with allergic rhinitis and the rate of secondary surgery were higher than those without asthma(P<0.05).Conclusions: The number and proportion of inflammatory cells are associated with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps and asthma.Patients with asthma suggest a higher likelihood of elevated eosinophils in peripheral blood.Asthma may affect the distribution of inflammatory cells in nasal polyps, but the number and proportion of local inflammatory cells may be affected by a variety of factors.
