Objective To compare the feasibility and short-term efficacy of Da Vinci robot and laparoscope in the treatment of colon cancer. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 85 patients who received colon cancer surgery from October 2016 to January 2018 in the Department of Anorectal Surgery of Gansu Provincial People’s Hospital, including 26 patients who received Da Vinci robotic radical resection of colon cancer(hereinafter referred to as robotic group)and 59 patients who received laparoscopic radical resection of colon cancer(hereinafter referred to as laparoscopic group). The short-term efficacy of the two groups was evaluated. Results There was no significant difference in age, body mass index and tumor stage between the two groups(P>0.05).Postoperative hospital stay, postoperative first feeding time and postoperative first ventilation time were significantly shorter in the robotic group than in the laparoscopic group(P<0.05);however,the total cost in the robotic group was higher than that in the laparoscopic group, with statistical significance(P<0.05);there was no statistical difference in the operation time, intraoperative blood loss, number of lymph nodes obtained and total drainage volume between the two groups(P>0.05);multiple linear regression analysis showed that the operation time was related to intraoperative blood loss[Coe=0.20,95%CI(0.09 to 0.3);P<0.001];while the intraoperative blood loss was related to the number of preoperative complications[Coe=28.11,95%CI(2.20 to 54.02);P=0.03];postoperative hospital stay was mainly related to the surgical method[Coe=-5.78,95%CI(-8.81 to-2.75);P<0.001];all had statistical significance(P<0.05).Conclusion The robotic surgical system is feasible and safe in the treatment of colon cancer, and the operation time and intraoperative blood loss are also similar to those in the laparoscopic group. Moreover, the robotic surgical system for colon cancer has the advantages of faster postoperative gastrointestinal function recovery and shorter postoperative hospital stay compared with laparoscopy. However, the total cost of robotic surgery for colon cancer is significantly higher than that of laparoscopic surgery, which is the main deficiency of current application in this study site.
