Object:In art colleges, the number of female students is generally more than male students.Dysmenorrhea is common among this group of adolescent girls. In this research, the current conditions of dysmenorrhea among female college students in arts was investigated so as to analyze the influence of factors such as living environment, living habits, menstruation, and psychological conditions on dysmenorrhea.Related risk factors for dysmenorrhea were explored to develop corresponding clinical conditions. The research aims to provide conceptual ideas and practical measures for the prevention and treatment of dysmenorrhea, and provide guidance for female college students’ health education and psychological counseling.Methods:(1)Data collection: A questionnaire based survey was conducted on college female undergraduates from the freshman to senior year in Nanjing University of the Arts, using proportional random stratified cluster sampling method.Based on demographic characteristics, living habits, menstrual conditions, mental status, and so forth,a selfdesigned dysmenorrhea questionnaire, along with SAS and SDS,were used to investigate the current situation.(2)Data analysis: After the questionnaires were collected, the data were input and analyzed in a statistical system. The statistical methods included chi-square test, independent sample T test, rank sum test, and logistic regression analysis.Single and multi-factor correlation analyses were conducted with regards to the level of dysmenorrhea, according to the medical history and clinical manifestations and the diagnostic criteria.Results:(1)The incidence of primary dysmenorrhea was 80.8% among art college students,of which 61.3% were mild,29.6% were moderate, and 9.1% were severe.(2)Single factor analysis of primary dysmenorrhea: A comparative analysis of dysmenorrhea group and non dysmenorrheal group found that there was a correlation between dysmenorrheal and a series of factors, including the regularity of breakfast, sleeping time, the amount of exercises during the menstrual period, maternal history of dysmenorrhea, menarche age, menstrual meridian, learning and living stress, attitude towards menstruation, and anxiety level(P<0.05,P<0.01).(3)Single factor analysis of the degree of dysmenorrhoea: A comparative analysis of mild to moderate dysmenorrhea and severe dysmenorrhea found that the degree of dysmenorrhea was correlated to the regularity of breakfast, the length of sleep, the amount of exercises during the menstrual period, whether it was easy to catch a cold, menstrual cycle, and duration of menstruation. There were statistically significant differences in factors such as the learning and living stress, attitude towards menstruation, anxiety level, and depression level(P<0.05,P<0.01).(4)Comparison of psychological assessment between dysmenorrhea group and non dysmenorrhea group: The degree of anxiety in dysmenorrhea group was higher than non dysmenorrhea group(P<0.05).The degree of dysmenorrhea was correlated to the degree of anxiety in dysmenorrhea group. The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).(5)The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the occurrence of dysmenorrhea was correlated to maternalhistory of dysmenorrhea, age of menarche, duration of menstruation, menstrual quality, attitude to menstruation(P<0.05).The degree of dysmenorrhea was correlated to factors including duration, menstrual quality, and attitude to menstruation(P<0.05).Conclusions:It was found that the incidence of dysmenorrhea in art class female college students reached 80.8%.The main risk factors for dysmenorrhea were maternal history of dysmenorrhea, irregular breakfast, young age at menarche, abnormal menstrual quality, and negative attitude towards menstruation. While menstrual abnormalities, negative attitude towards menstruation are correlated risk factors for the degree of dysmenorrhea.
