Background and objective Major depressive disorder(MDD)is a complexd mental illness.More than half of patients with MDD have concurrent pain or other physical symptoms.Co-occurring pain symptoms of patients with MDD are related to misdiagnose and longer duration of untreated episode.It is clinically useful to further exploring clinical features and related factors of MDD with concurrent pain symptoms.The main objective is to explorer clinical characteristics of painful symptoms in major depressive disorder.Methods 439 patients with painful symptoms and 374 patients without painful symptoms diagnosed major depressive disorder according to DSMIV were enrolled.Demographic and clinical data were collected and compared between two groups.Painful symptoms related factors were analyzed by Pearson correlation analysis.Results The scores of 17-item Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression(HAMD-17)and its anxious somatic factors,Hamilton Rating Scale for Anxiety(HAMA)in painful symptoms group were significantly higher than those in non-painful symptoms group(P<0.001).Constituent ratio of gender had significant difference between 2 groups(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in age,somatic comorbidity,marriage andoccupation between 2 groups(P﹥0.05).The score of painful symptoms in Depression and Somatic Symptoms Scale(DSSS)was correlated with scores of HAMA,HAMD-17 and its anxious somatic factors,6-item life quality rating scale.Conclusion Patients with painful symptoms of MDD were more likely to experience more serious depressive symptoms,worse life quality and more serious anxious symptoms,especially somatic anxious symptoms.The painful symptoms were correlated depression,anxiety especially somatic anxiety and life quality.
