BACKGROUND: Major Depressive Disorder(MDD),as a common mental disorder in the world, has the characteristics of high morbidity, high recurrence rate and high suicide rate.A retrospective study of adult depression found that most of the first onset of depression occurred in adolescence or childhood. The younger age of depression will increase the growth burden of adolescents.Adolescence is an important and fragile stage in the life cycle.Family is the main living environment of adolescents. It plays an important role in adolescent depression.Adolescent depression is related to family function.Social support can cushion the stress caused by stress events. However, previous studies have not fully explained how family function and social support lead to adolescent depression. Therefore, this study intends to further explore the family functional characteristics of adolescent major depressive patients and their relationship with social support.OBJECTIVE: To collect family information of adolescents with depression through family interviews and questionnaires,to understand thecharacteristics of family function and social support of adolescents with depression, and to clarify the role of both in adolescent depression.METHODS: We recruited 40 adolescents who had diagnosed with major depressive disorder and their parents in the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University and the Eleventh People's Hospital of Chongqing as the experimental group, and 40 normal adolescents and parents matched by gender and age as the control group. The general demographic questionnaire,Chinese version of Beck Depression Inventory-?(BDI-II-C),Bake Anxiety Inventory(BAI),Family Assessment Device(FAD)and Social Support Rate Scale(SSRS)were used as research tools. All data were analyzed by SPSS22.0.Chi-square test,t-test and correlation analysis were used.RESULTS:(1)There were significant differences between the experimental group and the control group in terms of family structure, whether the only child or the parents' educational level(P<0.01);the scores of anxiety of parents in the experimental group(10.323±8.101)were higher than those in the control group(5.692±4.739),with significant differences(P<0.01).(2)The score of family function of the experimental group(153.300±19.692)had a higher than the control group(130.775±17.120),and the score of social support(28.250±4.892)was significantly lower than that of the control group(36.175±4.465).The difference was statisticallysignificant(P<0.01).(3)Depression in adolescents was positively correlated with family function(r=0.396;P<0.05),negatively correlated with social support(r=-0.341;P<0.05);family function in adolescents with depression was negatively correlated with social support(r=-0.449;P<0.01).(4)There was a significant positive correlation between adolescent depression and communication, role and emotional intervention(r=0.414,r=0.436,r=0.359;P<0.01),adolescent depression was negatively correlated with support utilization(r=-0.379;P<0.05);and a negative correlation between objective support and problem solving, communication, role, emotional response, emotional intervention, behavioral control and total family function(r=-0.320,r=-0.479,r=-0.502,r=-0.323,r=-0.368,r=-0.344,r=-0.425;P<0.05),support utilization was negatively correlated with family roles, emotional responses and behavioral control(r=-0.336,r=-0.334,r=-0.339;P<0.05).CONCLUSION:(1)The results of this study indicate that number of brothers and sisters and parental level of education are related to adolescent depression;family structure is related to adolescent depression, but family function is more important than family structure.(2)Parents of adolescents with major depressive disorder also have a few depression symptoms.(3)family dysfunction in adolescents with major depressive disorder, communication between family members is unclear, excessive participation of family members, and chaos of family roles.(4)Major depressiveadolescents lack social support, and the objective support and utilization of support are influenced by family function.
