| Oscillating saw is widely used in Orthopedic Surgery, but high temperatures occurrence during bone sawing will irreversibly harm bone tissue. The ill effect of losing bone tissue becomes a serious threat to surgical success. This effect is more pronounced in joint replacement surgery. With clinical success is so strongly dependent upon maintaining living bone tissue, minimizing the undue tissue trauma inflicted by wasteful heating or excessive deformation is of prime importance in sawing tool and blade system design. As medical tools, oscillating saws are referred to as sagittal saws.Cutting teeth describe a short arc with the sagittal saw,as the whole blade pivots about typically 3o – 5o at mounting point.Oscillating saw works at very high speeds, approximately 5000 to 20,000 cycles per minute. This article use ANSYS software to employ modal analysis, static analysis, and harmonic response analysis,in order to calculate the saw blade structure itself is safe and will not have failure during cutting process. In this research,in order to find the factors which affect bone cutting effect, fresh bovine femur is used to replace human bone.An innovative experimental setup is used to simulate the distinctive conditions present in power sawing.By implementing designed experiments with different cutting thickness and cutting speed,Results shows that a linear relationship exist between tool resultant force and cutting thickness, speed had no statistically significant effect on either cutting or thrust force, the ratio between thrust force and cutting force is between 1.4-1.8,the resultant force value is between 6.8N-10 N.Per the experimental result, one algebraic prediction model I of bone cutting force is established, model I shows the relationship of cutting force, cutting speed, and interactions of cutting thickness and speed.By comparing the results of the prediction model I with the experiments’,the algebraic prediction model is verified to be feasible. This research uses an analytical model II accounting for a tool with a cutting edge radius greater than cutting depth. The basic model was then improved by adding provisions compensating for a plowing depth and a built up edge.Use Matlab to simulate the process of bone cutting, and compare the results of the prediction model II to experiments’,the prediction model II is also verified to be feasible. |
