Objective: Objectively evaluate the efficacy of the stretching-pressing method in the treatment of persistent numbness caused by radiculopathy in lumbar disc herniation(LDH)through clinical randomized controlled trials(RCTs),aim at exploring an another alternatve method, which could be more effective and be worth clinical promotion and adoption. Methods: 72 satisfied individuals of LDH with radiculopathy were randomly divided into the experimental group and the control group by SPSS random number generator. The intervention method of the control group is traditional Tuina therapy, and the experimental group is traditional Tuina therapy plus stretching-pressing method.Numbness Visual Analog Score(VAS),the Quantitative Sensation Test(QST,including cotton swab test, acupuncture test),and the Japanese Orthopedic Association(JOA)score were evaluated at the time of before treatment, after 1 week's treatment, after 2 weeks' treatment, and after 4 weeks' treatment, and the treatment improvement rate were evaluated after a 4 weeks' of treatment. Finally, statistical analysis was performed to compare intra-and inter-group differences and draw conclusions.Results:(1)There was no statistical difference in baseline values between the two groups, which was comparable(P>0.05).(2)Efficacy score:(1)Intra-group comparison: In the intra-group comparation of the pre-treatment with after 4 weeks' treatment, both the experimental group and the control group have statistical significant in numbness VAS score, cotton swab test and JOA score(P<0.05),while in acupuncture test, the experimental group have statistically significant(P<0.05)and the control group haven't(P>0.05).(2)Inter-group comparison: Both numbness VAS score, cotton swab test, acupuncture test and JOA score have no statistical difference between the experimental group and the control group in pre-treatment or after 1 weeks' treatment(P>0.05).Numbness VAS score have statistical difference after 2 weeks' treatment(P<0.05),while cotton swab test, acupuncture test and JOA score haven't(P>0.05).Numbness VAS score and cotton swab test have statistical difference after 2 weeks' treatment(P<0.05),while acupuncture test and JOA score haven't(P>0.05).(3)Therapeutic improvement efficiency: There was no significant difference between the experimental group and the control group(P>0.05).Conclusions:(1)Whether it is the traditional Tuina technique or the traditional Tuina plus stretching-pressing method, both of them have the efficacy in treatment of LDH,and the traditional Tuina plus stretching-pressing method is more conducive to the relief of persistent numbness caused by radiculopathy.(2)To some extent,stretching-pressing method is considered to be a relatively safe treatment in a certain applicable group and within a certain range and it could be worth promotion and adoption in the clinical treatment of LDH with radiculopathy.
