| Objective:To investigate the effects of Transcutaneous Electrical Acupoint Stimulation(TEAS)on sedation of anesthesia residents. Methods:The anesthesia residents in the hospital were assessed with the Sleep Self-Rating Scale, who scored more than 10 points were included in the study. They were randomly divided into the experimental group(Gt group)and the control group(Gc group)with 23 cases in each group. They were assessed with the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI),Self-rating depression scale(SDS)half an hour before the experiment.Lie flat in a quiet and temperature-appropriate(24-26℃)environment,while using earplugs and eye patches, given basic electrocardiogram(ECG)monitoring, saturation of pulse oximetry(SPO2),mean arterial pressure(MAP),bispectral index(BIS)monitoring. After wiping at both sides of Neiguan(PC6)and Shenmen(HT7)with the alcohol cotton tampon, the electrodes were pasted and connected to the Han’s electrical stimulator. The group of Gt was given the current that could be tolerated maximum with the sense of“DeQi”.The Gc group only connected the stimulator without any stimulation.Volunteers were laid supine on a bed in a quiet dim room for 10 minutes.Baseline heart rate(HR),SPO2,MAP were recorded together with BIS values. Then volunteers were left alone for 30 minutes.HR,SPO2 and BIS values were registered every 3 minutes.During the subsequent 15 minutes, data were recorded every one minute. At the end of the experiment, they were asked to state whether they fell slept, whether they were nervous during the experiment. On the following day, volunteers were asked about the sleep-related status and TEAS-related complications(local skin redness, itching, electric burns,etc.).Results:1 There were no significant differences in gender,age,height,weight,BMI,State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI)score,Self-Rating Scale of Sleep(SRSS)and Self-rating depression scale(SDS)score between the two groups before experimennt(P>0.05).2 Rejecting the Mauchly’s test of Sphericity.Electrical stimulation interacted with time in the experimental group compared with the control group.(time P<0.05,time*group P<0.05,group P<0.05).Inter-group comparison:There were significant differences between the two groups from 4 minutes to 13 minutes after electrical stimulation(T14-T23)(P<0.05).while there were no significant differences at the remaining time points(T1-T13,T24,T25)(P>0.05).Intra-group comparison:There were significant differences from 18minutes of electrical stimulation to 15 minutes after the end of electrical stimulation(T6-T25)compaired with T0 in Gt group(P<0.05).There was significant difference in Gc group at T5 compaired with T0(P<0.05).There were no significant differences in the remaining time points(T1-T4,T6-T25)compaired with T0(P>0.05).3 There was no significant difference in sleep status between the two groups(P>0.05).No trial-related complications occurred in the two groups.4 There were no significant differences in HR,SPO2,MAP between the two groups at any time(P>0.05).Conclusion:Percutaneous TEAS at Neiguan and Shenmen acupoints for 30 minutes, which can tolerate maximum current, can produce significant sedative effect on Anesthesia residents. It had no effect on HR,SPO2 and MAP,which can be safely applied. |
