Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)is the gem of Chinese nation and the key to the treasure of Chinese civilization. At present,China has entered an active period of chronic diseases. In the face of the rising morbidity, mortality, and the increasing economic burdens, the limitations of modern medicine in health services for chronic diseases are becoming more and more obvious, while with complete theoretical system, exact clinical efficacy as well as the characteristics of “Uncomplicated,Convenient,Effective and Cheap”,TCM shows its unique advantages and broad development prospects in the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases.Through in-depth research on the demand of TCM health service for chronic diseases in the middle-aged and old group, this paper provides realistic basis for putting forward strategies to promote the sustainable development of TCM services and formulating health service policies for chronic diseases in line with China’s national conditions.Through literature research, interview, questionnaire survey and statistical analysis,1171 middle-aged and old people over 45 years old were surveyed on the demand of TCM health services for chronic diseases.First of all, using the methods of literature research to understand the epidemic status of chronic diseases in China,as well as the general situation of health service of chronic diseases and TCM in our country,to put forward the research ideas of this paper;combing the related policies in the past decade, studying the theoretical system of TCM and analyzing the advantages of TCM in the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases,so as to provide theoretical basis for the research.Secondly, combining the interview content,a questionnaire was designed. Finally, the questionnaire was distributed and recycled, and SPSS21.0 was used for data processing and statistical analysis.According to the results of analysis, this paper draws the conclusions of this study, and puts forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions. The results showed that the prevalence rate of chronic diseases was 89.3%,and the number of chronic diseases per capita was 2.53±1.77,the older the subjects were, the more chronic diseases they had.More than one third of the respondents made negative comments on the effectiveness of chronic disease management at the present stage, and only 50.5% of the respondents were satisfied with chronic disease health services. In the survey of knowledge level of TCM among middle-aged and old group, the cognitive score of the respondents was 7.13±2.75,belonging to the general level. The educational background, living conditions and monthly income level were significantly correlated with the cognitive level(P<0.05).In terms of attitudes toward TCM,90.4% of the respondents believed that TCM was scientific,91.7% recognized the advantages of TCM in the treatment of chronic diseases, and 86.6% believed that people’s acceptance of TCM had improved in recent years. For the evaluation of TCM service, the total satisfaction score was 3.63±0.81,the price satisfaction score which was the most important factor affecting the overall satisfaction score in the five evaluation items was the lowest(3.20±1.05).Only 36.7% of the subjects had used the appropriate technology of TCM in nearly half a year.Among them,Chinese patent medicine(63.0%)and Chinese herbal medicine(47.9%)had a higher utilization rate.in the survey of the demand for health services of TCM,84.7% of the respondents expressed their desire to use TCM to prevent and treat chronic diseases. The top three in total demand were health care services(55.8%),medication guidance(50.9%)and appropriate technology of TCM(49.6%).88.8% of the respondents expressed their desire to acquire knowledge of TCM,The respondents’ demand for knowledge of TCM was significantly related to whether they suffered from chronic diseases or not(P<0.05).67.9% of the respondents very much hoped that the practitioners of TCM would be more professional,55.4% very much hoped to be able to carry out health examination with Chinese characteristics in basic medical institutions.64.6% thought it necessary for the government to increase investment in TCM.Based on the results of investigation and analysis, the following conclusions are drawn:(1)among the middle-aged and old group, the prevalence rate of chronic diseases is high, and the service of chronic diseases at the stage can not meet their health demand;(2)There is room to improve middle-aged and old group’s cognitive level of TCM;(3)Middle-aged and old people have a high degree of trust in TCM and their satisfaction of TCM services needs to be improved;(4)Middle-aged and old people have high recognition of appropriate technology of TCM,while have low utilization rate of it;(5)Middle-aged and old people have various demands of TCM health services for chronic diseases;(6)Middle-aged and old people have multi-level and diversified demands for TCM service providers.Accordingly, the countermeasures are as follows:(1)strengthen the popularization of TCM and enhance the cultural literacy of TCM in middle-aged and old group;(2)Increase financial support for TCM and maintain the price advantage of TCM;(3)Balance the allocation of human resources of TCM and improve the technical level of TCM practitioners;(4)Improve the utilization rate of appropriate technology of TCM and give full play to the advantages of TCM in health service of chronic diseases;(5)Establish and perfect the TCM service system for primary medical institutions to meet the health demand of chronic diseases in middle-aged and old group.
