ObjectiveInvestigating the self-efficacy,coping style and quality of life of patients with chronic periodontitis and analyze the influence of general data on self-efficacy,coping style and quality of life.To explore the correlation between self-efficacy,coping style and quality of life in patients with chronic periodontitis. It provides a scientific basis for patients with chronic periodontitis to improve their self-efficacy,change their coping style and improve their quality of life.MethodsThis study used a convenient sampling method to select patients diagnosed with chronic periodontitis by oral periodontists at the dental clinics of the First,Second and Third Hospitals affiliated to Jinzhou Medical University from March 2017 to December 2017.A general data questionnaire, oral health-related quality of life(OHIP-14),Self-efficacy-scale for self-care(SESS)and medical coping style questionnaire(MCMQ)were used for investigation.Data were applied to SPSS 21.0 for descriptive analysis,t-test,single factor analysis,Pearson correlation analysis and multivariate linear regression analysis.Results1.The average score of self-efficacy of patients with chronic periodontitis was(55.71±8.82),which was at a medium level. The coping style scores were confrontation(18.50±8.14),avoidance(16.15±6.62),and yield(11.67±4.95).The average quality of life score was(28.97±13.21),and the quality of life was poor.2.There were significant differences in self-efficacy among patients with chronic periodontitis(P < 0.05),such as age, education level, family average monthly income, smoking status, drinking status, periodontal severity and number of teeth(P < 0.05).3.There were significant differences in confrontation coping styles among patients with chronic periodontitis in terms of age, marital status, education level, family average monthly income, periodontal severity and number of teeth(P < 0.05).There were significant differences in avoidance coping styles in age, education, smoking status, periodontal severity and number of teeth(P < 0.05).There were significant differences in yield coping styles in age, education level, average monthly income of family, drinking status, periodontal severity and number of teeth(P < 0.05).4.The quality of life of patients with chronic periodontitis was significantly different in age, sex, education level, average monthly income of family, smoking status, drinking status, periodontal severity and number of teeth(P < 0.05).5.Correlation analysis showed that self-efficacy was positively correlated with confrontation,self-efficacy was negatively correlated with avoidance and yield.self-efficacy was positively correlation with quality of life, confrontation was positively correlation with quality of life, quality of life was negatively correlation between avoidance and yield.6.The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that the self-efficacy score had a predictive effect on the quality of life score(P<0.01),and the self-efficacy score had a predictive effect on the coping style score(P<0.01).the scores of self-efficacy and coping style had predictive effects on quality of life scores(P<0.01).Conclusions1.The self-efficacy and quality of life of patients with chronic periodontitis need to be improved.2.The self-efficacy,coping style, and quality of life of patients with chronic periodontitis are affected by general data.3.The quality of life of patients with chronic periodontitis is significantly correlated with self-efficacy and coping style.4.Self-efficacy can not only directly predict the quality of life of patients with chronic periodontitis, but also indirectly predict the quality of life through the mediating effect of coping style.
