Objective:Guided by Zhou Zhongying’s theory of "stasis heat",combined with Professor Wu Mianhua’s clinical experience of dialectical treatment, and guided by the method of"supplementing qi and nourishing yin, cooling blood and dispersing blood stasis",this subject formulates Chinese herbal prescriptions for nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients during radiotherapy, objectively evaluates the clinical efficacy of preventing and treating radiation dry mouth of nasopharyngeal carcinoma,to explore the effective methods to improve patients’radiotherapy tolerance and quality of life. Methods:Sixty patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma who met the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into control group and treatment group. The control group was treated with radiotherapy according to the procedure, while the treatment group was treated with Chinese herbal decoction formulated under the guidance of "supplementing qi and nourishing yin, cooling blood and dispersing blood stasis" method. The changes of dry mouth, the degree of salivary gland injury, salivary flow rate, salivary pH value, salivary electrolyte and Kamofsky score before and after radiotherapy were compared between the two groups.Liver and kidney function and short-term efficacy were measured before and after radiotherapy. All data were processed with GraphPad Prism 6.01 software package. Results:There was no dry mouth in the two groups before treatment, and the degree of salivary gland injury in the treatment group was lighter than that in the control group at the 6th week(P<0.05);salivary flow rate and pH value continued to decrease at the 3rd and 6th weeks, and there was significant difference between the two groups(P<0.05);as for electrolyte, there was no difference in the concentration of Na+ and K+ between the 6th week and the 3rd week, but there was significant difference in the total electrolyte secretion at the 6th week(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in quality of life, toxicity and short-term efficacy between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion:"supplementing qi and nourishing yin, cooling blood and dispersing blood stasis" method can significantly reduce the degree of salivary gland injury in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients during radiotherapy, relieve dry mouth and other symptoms, improve radiotherapy tolerance, and is safe and reliable. |
