Objective:To figure out the factors accounting for pedicle screw fixation broken after thoracic and lumbar surgery. Methods:Here a total of 37 pedicle screw fixation broken cases are taken into analysis, which are among 2021 surgeries of this type in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University from January 2013 to March 2018.The cases were grouped according to their gender, age, types of lesion, number of segments, bone grafting and rail use.Analyze the data by SPSS 17.0 statistical software. Results:It shows that the pedicle screws of thoracic and lumbar fracture patients broken more frequently than spondylolisthesis, intervertebral disc herniation, canal stenosis, andspinal tumor(P<0.05).And it occurs more often among patients without bone graft than those with bone graft in the surgery(P<0.05).Patients without rail break pedicle screws more than those with rail(P<0.05).Besides,the broken is more likely to happen on young patients(under 45 years)than old patients. However there are no significant differences in the broken occurrence between patients with short-section and long-section,male and female(P>0.05).Conckusion:The breakage of pedicle screw fixation after thoracic and lumbar surgery is correlated with age, types of lesion, bone grafting and rail use;but it is not obvious related to gender or number of segments. These results suggest that maintaining the vertebra integral especially the anterior column and middle column, using rail, grafting bone and preventing young people from extra physical activities would be helpful to reduce the broken risk. |
