Objective: The purpose of this experiment is to access the possible effects of scleral collagen cross-linking induced by genipin on eye axis in young rabbits.And to explore a new path to treat myopia disorder.Methods: The 2 weeks old experimental animal was selected randomly.The average weight of 0.6-1.2kg each rabbit.The Group A were both eyes open,Group B were lid suturing on the right eyes,Group C were injected saline 0.25 ml into Tenon’s space of four quadrants around ocular wall,two days per once,three times in total.Group D used SXL treatment,Group E were injected genipin as the same method as Group C adopted.The concentration of genipin concentration was 0.25mmol/L in E1 group,and the concentration of genipin was 0.5mmol/L in E2 group,And the concentration of genipin in group E3 was1.0mmol/L.The axis were measured using A-scan ultrasonography respectively before and after the experiment.Result: 8 weeks later,the prolongation in each group were : Group A 1.63 + 0.23mm;Group B: 4.71 + 0.21mm;Group C: 4.65 + 0.23mm;Group D: 3.85 + 0.20mm;Group E1:3.9 + 0.21mm;E2:3.81±0.23mm;E3:3.62±0.24 mm.The prolongation values of each group were all P < 0.05,the difference was statistically significant.It indicating that the axial prolongation of D,E1,E2 and E3 was shorter than that in Group B,and the shortened data was E3 > E2 > D > E1.In the E2,the ocular axis was shortened 1.92 + 0.15mm(p=0.025,p<0.05),and the group E3 was 1.17 + 0.20mm(p=0.016,p<0.05).Conclusions: the experimental suggests that:(1)Rabbit scleral cross-linking can be induced by genipin.(2)Genipin could prevent the elongation of eye axis in form-deprivation myopia.
