| ObjectiveThe Airtraq laryngoscope is an intubation device that designed to provide a view of vocal cords without alignment of oral,pharyngeal and tracheal axis.In clinical practice,commonly used tracheal tube which has a left-bevelled tip need to be rotated to smoothly insert into tracheal.When the bevel is rotated to right,it is easier to intubate the tube via Airtraq.We compared the tube bevel towards left and right in Airtraq facilitated intubation in a randomized,controlled clinical trial.MethodsOne hundred ASA physical status I and II patients aged from 18 to 69 years old having general surgery were selected,while eight-three of them enrolled the trial.They were randomly assigned to one of two groups using either the left-bevelled tube(Group L,n=46)and right-bevelled tube(Group R,n=37).Airway was assessed before anesthesia,and all patients were induced with routine anesthetic regimen.Intubation time was primary outcome.The success of first intubation attempt,the contacts vocal cords of tube,and the rotation of tube were also noted.Hemodynamic variables during intubation and incidence of intubation associated complication were recorded as well.ResultsThe intubation time of Group R was shorter than that of Group L(4.8 ± 2.00 s vs.9.83 ± 8.14 s P<0.01).The success of first intubation attempt was better in Group R(one attempt/more than one attempts 36/1 vs.37/9 P<0.05)and the rotation of tube was less in Group R(rotate/non-rotate 37/0 vs.30/16 P<0.05).In the contact vocal cords of tube,Group R was less than Group L(Contact/Non-Contact 34/3 vs 34/12 P=0.034),There were no significant difference between two groups in Hemodynamic variables during intubation and incidence of intubation associated complication.ConclusionsCompared with left-bevelled tube,the right-bevelled tube might be more suitable for Airtraq facilitated intubation,especially in difficult airway and patient need fast intubation. |
