Purposes: The research was focused on patients who were diagnosis with knee osteoarthritis at Affiliated Hospital of Changchun University of Chinese Medicine and whose conditions complied with all criteria in sample selection process. These patients had properly taken two target treatments--intra-articular ozone injection with or without acupuncture. And by comparing pain level and effects on daily life of patients, the research assessed safety, validity and scalability of intra-articular ozone injection with acupuncture, which combines traditional Chinese treatments with western therapy. Methods: 72 cases of patients were randomly divided into test and control group. The test group took intra-articular ozone injection with acupuncture, while the control group were exempted from acupuncture.Precisely, patients of control group were treated once a week, four weeks as a course, and one course in total.Test group accepted acupuncture once a day,six times a week, and intra-articular ozone injection was given on the seventh day, which was also once a week, four weeks as a course, and one course in total. The effectiveness of pain relief after a treatment was evaluated by Visual Analogue Scale(VAS).The impacts of pain, stiff and functionality to patients were measured by The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index(WOMAC).All data were processed by SPSS 21.0 to evaluated the difference statistically.Results:(1)demographic information: there was no significant difference between two groups(p > 0.05).(2)the effectiveness of pain relief: according to results of VAS,there was significant difference before and after in the same group(p < 0.05);there was no significant difference before treatment between two groups(p > 0.05);there was significant difference after treatment between two groups(p < 0.05),the test group performed better in pain relieving.(3)the impacts of pain, stiff and functionality: according to WOMAC,there was no significant difference before treatment between two groups(p > 0.05);there was significant difference after treatment between two groups(p < 0.05),the test group performed better as well. Conclusion: 1.Both groups achieved improvement in patients’ condition.2.Intra-articular ozone injection with acupuncture were more likely to relieve pain.3.Both groups could improve symptoms, but test group performed better.4.Intra-articular ozone injection with acupuncture for treating knee osteoarthritis had obvious curative effect, which was of high value in clinic application.
