| Objective:To evaluate the influence of stabilization splint in the patients with temporomandibular disorders(TMD).Methods:A total of 30 cases were chosen from the patients with TMD and treated with stabilization splint for 3 months. The BioEMG II was used to record the characteristic of muscle activity of right bilateral anterior temporalis(RTA),masseter muscle(RMM),sternocleidomastoid(RSCM)and anterior belly of digastric(RDA)and left bilateral anterior temporalis(LTA),masseter muscle(LMM),sternocleidomastoid(LSCM)and anterior belly of digastric(LDA)at mandibular postural position(MPP),intercuspal position(ICP)with maximum clenching and during deglutition, respectively.Calculate the masticatory electrical activity asymmetry index and evaluate the therapeutic efficacy.Results:(1)On the day the splint was inserted, during ICP with maximum clenching,TA and MM electrical activity and asymmetry was significantly reduced with than without the splint(P<0.05);(2)After 3 months treatment, all the 30 patients’ TA 、 MM 、 and DA electrical activity at postural position were significantly reduced(P<0.05).(3)TA 、 MM electrical activity at ICP with maximum clenching were significantly reduced(P<0.05),TA and MM asymmetry was significantly reduced(P<0.05);(4)There was no significant difference of TA、MM、SCM、DA electrical activity during swallow(P<0.05).Conclusions: The use of the stabilization splint to treat TMD was satisfactory,it can improve the function of masticatory muscles and relieve the hypertension of masticatory muscles. |
