Objective:To compare the distribution of RNFL thickness with age and diopter;to explore the correlation between age, diopter and RNFL thickness;to analysis RNFL thickness variation characteristics in the disease that can change RNFL thickness. Methods: A total of 268 subjects, aged 30 to 75 years and diopters-0.50 to-14.75 D,were enrolled in the study. All subjects were divided into 3 groups according to their age: young group 30 to 45 years old, middle age group 46 to 60 years old, elderly group 61 to 75 years old;each group was divided into 3 groups according to diopter: mild myopia(?-3.00D),moderate myopia(-3.00~-6.00D),and high myopia(>-6.00).All subjects underwent diopter and intraocular pressure examinations.A Heidelberg Spectralis OCT was used to center the optic disc, the optic disc and its surrounding area were scanned with a circular RNFL scan of 3.4 mm in diameter.OCT was used to automatically read the average, nasal, superior nasal, inferior nasal, temporal, superior temporal, inferior temporal RNFL thickness values.Statistical analysis was performed to compare the differences between groups, diopter groups and the correlation between age?diopter and RNFL thickness.Results:(1)The RNFL thickness of different age groups were significantly different on the average, inferior nasal and inferior temporal. There was a significant difference in the average RNFL thickness between the young and middle age groups, the young and the elderly groups, while there was no significant difference between the middle and elderly groups. The RNFL thickness on the inferior nasal was only significantly different between young and old groups. The inferior temporal RNFL thickness on the young and middle groups, young and old groups were significantly different, but no significant difference between middle-aged and elderly groups.(2)Different ages was weak negatively correlated with the average and inferior temporal RNFL thickness, and had a greater correlation with the RNFL thickness in the temporal region(r=-0.290).(3)There were significant differences in average and each quadrant RNFL thickness between different diopter groups. In addition to the superior temporal and inferior temporal, moderate myopia was no significant difference between the groups, the remaining groups were significantly different.(4)Except that the temporal RNFL thickness and the diopter are weakly positive linear correlation, the rest of the quadrant and the average RNFL thickness with diopter was a certain degree of negative linear correlation and the difference was significant. The correlation between diopter and RNFL thickness of superior nasal and inferior nasal was greater than other parameters. Conclusion :(1)Average and superior temporal RNFL thickness decreases with age.The superior temporal RNFL thickness is more sensitive to changes in age than other parameters, and changes can occur between young and middle-aged groups.(2)The temporal thickness of RNFL increased with the increase of myopia, and the RNFL thickness of other quadrant decreased with the increase of myopia degree, especially the change of superior and inferior nasal, and also the earliest.(3)The characteristics of OCT parameters in age and myopic refractive error are significantly different from those in glaucoma and other disease that can cause RNFL thickness changes.
