Objective: To evaluate and discuss the clinical effects of camouflage orthodontic treatment using MBT straight wire appliance for an adult skeletal class ? malocclusion with congenital missing teeth patient.Method: A 21 years old adult female skeletal Class III malocclusion patients presented at the Department of Stomatology,University of Dalian Medical University, was selected in 2016.The facial height ratio was uncoordinated with increase in LFH,the facial profile was concave. The patient had improper masticatory and swallowing functions. There was severe crowding in the upper arch and moderate in the lower arch. There were two retained primary second molars in the lower arch without their succedaneous teeth. The treatment was carried out by using MBT straight wire appliance.Diagnose: Skeletal Class ?,Angle Class ?Treatment plan: Extract the second premolars in the upper arch and two retained primary second molars in the lower arch. Results: Treatment took 26 months to correct the malocclusion. The maxillary and mandibular arches became normal in shape and matched in size. The crowding was relieved and teeth were well aligned. The molars and canines became class ?,the overbite of anterior teeth became normal, the posterior teeth had good occlusal function, and there was no occlusal interference. The midlines of the upper and lower arch became coincident with the facial midline. The roots were parallel without resorption.SNA increased by 0.84° which indicates that the point A moved slightly forward, which had been achieved by the use of class ? elastic,SNB reduced by 0.13° which indicates that point B moved backward,it may be due to the changes in mandibular position and the labial movement of the roots of the lower incisor due to class ? elastic.ANB increased from-1.4°to-0.43°,the A0-BO increased by 2.8mm,the APDI decreased by 0.89°,this indicates that the incoordination between maxilla and mandible is partly corrected.Upper incisors stayed almost at the same position, while the lower incisors became lingual to achieve normal overjet. The change of FMA and CF indicates that the vertical height of molars did not change significantly during orthodontic treatment, and the vertical anchorage was well controlled anyway.Due to the large tongue movement of mandibular incisor, the shape of lip was improved to some extent, and the profile meliorated. Conclusion: After the camouflage treatment using technology of MBT straight wire appliance, patients who have skeletal class ? malocclusion can get a normal occlusion, better facial profile and stable treatment results. To achieve good results and perfect occlusion the abnormity happened in congenital missing teeth patient needs to be overall treated...
