| Objective: Chronic constipation is a common problem and affects the general population,especially in women and the elderly.It has been more and more important because of its huge impact on the daily life of patients.At present,there is a lack of relevant researches about the characteristics of chronic constipation in women of different ages in China.This study aimed to explore the age relavent symptom and physiological characteristics differences so as to fill the domestic vacancy.Methods: 402 female patients were enrolled who met to the Rome III criteria for constipation.The symptoms of constipation and lifestyle habits were collected in 402 patients by questionnaire and the results of anorectal manometry and colonic transit time were collected in the gastrointestinal motility center.Excel and SPSS software were used to analyze the results.Results: There were 248 patients in 18 to 50 years old,100 patients aged 51 to 64 years old,and 54 patients aged over 65 years old.Spearman single factor analysis found out that the intake of food and fruits decreased with age in the three groups(r=-0.192,P < 0.001;r=-0.163,P=0.001).While the intake of coarse grains showed an increasing trend with the increase of age(r=0.146,P=0.004).Besides,the results showed work pressure and self-rated sleep quality decreased with the increase of age in the three groups(r=-0.228,P < 0.001;r=-0.103,P=0.040).On the contrary,the frequency of physical exercise showed an increasing trend with the increase of age in the three groups(r=0.250.P < 0.001).The incidence of “infrequent stools " in female patients aged 18-50 years old was significantly higher than that of patients aged 51-64 years old(P=0.012).What’s more,anal resting pressure in patients aged 18-50 years old was significantly higher than that in the other two groups(P=0.015,P=0.001).While the anal residual pressure and maximum squeeze pressure patients aged 51-64 years old were significantly higher than that in elderly(P=0.000,P=0.001).Colon transit test results showed that the rate of gastrointestinal emptying in 72 hours in patients aged older than 65 years old was significantly lower than that in patients aged 51-64 years old(P=0.038).Conclusion: There were differences in risk factors and symptoms of constipation between female patients with different age.The colorectal motility and anal pressure decreased with the increase of age.The diet structure,work pressure,self-rated sleep quality and frequency of physical exercise also changed in female patients as increased age. |
