Malocclusion Management In Adult Patients With MEAW Technique

Objects: MEAW is versatile technique to solve various kinds of malocclusions,such as Cl II,Cl III,openbite,deepbite,mandibular deviation because MEAW can adjust each tooth every direction in order to achieve a good intercuspation as well as can upright several teeth at once.The objective of this study is to illustrate how MEAW can be integrated into the treatment in order to correct various kinds of malocclusions.Methods: This report describes the treatment of two cases.The first case is the 24-year-old male who had skeletal Cl III with mandibular deviation to the left,anterior open bite,cross bite at left canine and left TMJ pain.MEAW with elastics were used to correct his malocclusion by up-righting teeth to gain space,and by adjusting intercuspation of the teeth individually.The second case is the 19-year-old female who had skeletal cl II with mandibular deviation to the right,retrusive mandible,as well as large overbite and overjet.To correct her malocclusion,all the interference had to be eliminated.The biteblock was use to raise the bite.The expansion archwires were use to upright the lingually tilted teeth.MEAW with elastics were used to upright the teeth and guide the mandible forward to achieve the normal overjet and overbite as well as to adjust the intercuspation of each tooth.Results: For the first case,the profile was improved.His smile arch is more consonant to the lower lip.The chin was less deviated to the left side and then the left TMJ space was increased so that the TMJ symptom disappeared.The anterior openbite was corrected.The normal overjet and overbite were achieved.His occlusion was much improved.For the second case,the mandible moved forward and left side so the chin was less deviated to the right.The TMJ space on both sides increased.Her profile was improved.The molar and canine relationship were Cl I.The normal overjet and overbite were achieved.Her occlusion was much better.Conclusions: MEAW is one of the good techniques to correct any kinds of malocclusion including the mandibular deviation because MEAW can adjust each tooth to move any directions individually so it is a versatile tool to adjust intercuspation.MEAW can also upright several teeth at the same time so it is less time-consuming and help gaining space so the chance to extract the teeth will be lessen.
