BACKGROUND:Bone wax is a common hemostatic materials,bone and brain surgery requires a proper solidity,viscosity,extensibility and plasticity and suitable melting point is also necessary,which means it will not melt when it is applied in normal temperature.It should can be mold by bare hand.It is widely used in orthopedic surgery and suitable for the hemostasis of various cancellous bone wounds.Its hemostatic effect is good and is very convenient to use.Conventional bone wax,however,is limited by one big problem that it cannot be absorbed.In the operations which need bone-fusion we can’t use the conventional bone wax to stop bones’ bleeding,as makes it of great inconvenience to the surgery.Meanwhile,more blood loss alsoaccordingly jeopardize the prognosis of patients.OBJECTIVE:To develop a new kind of absorbable bone wax to solve the hemostasis problem in surgeries of department of orthopaedics,which can stop bones’ bleeding but will not prevent the healing of fracture.METHODS:First through consulting literatures from PubMed & CNKI to get information.,from the various kinds of hemostatic materials currently used in clinical practice,according to two major categories of liquid and solid by adjusting the proportion,different combination,add accessories,and other methods,get a material which is similar with the conventional bone wax in hardness,melting point,plasticity,ductility and other physical and chemical properties,and then do animal experiments to examine the hemostatic effect,absorbability and biological safety of it.Eight adult rabbits were selected.The eight experimental rabbits are equally divided into two groups-the new-type absorbable bone wax group and the control group(the traditional bone wax group),each group of four rabbits.Observe the hemostasis effect of the new-type absorbable bone wax and the traditionalone used in the two groups.12 weeks after surgery take X-rays for the two groups to evaluate the healing condition of the fractured bones and then get pathological sections of the two groups to identify the hemostasis materials absorbed or not.The experimental results obtained from all the experimental steps after quality check are inputted into computer based database and data backup is made.Chi-square(?2)test isused to do the data comparison between the new-type absorbable bone wax group and traditional group.Calculate the probability to see whether differences between the two groups have statistical significance.Testing standard: P?0.05.SPSS 2.0 was used for data analysis.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Compared with the control group,the new type of absorbable bone wax hemostatic effect is similar to traditional bone wax group,both of the new-type absorbable bone wax and conventional bone wax can immediately stop bleeding cancellous bone wound.X-ray film showed that the fracture ends of the new absorbable bone wax group were completely healed,the fracture completely healed,and the new type of absorbable bone wax was not found in the general sample.However,there are still fractures in the broken bone ends of the traditional bone wax group.The fracture is not fully healed,and the traditional bone wax is still not absorbed by the general specimens.The results show that the new absorbable bone wax is similar to traditional bone wax in hemostasis function and can be absorbed completely without affecting the fracture healing.Therefore,the new-type absorbable bone wax has a great advantage in improving the prognosis of surgery compared with traditional bone wax. |
