| Objective:To evaluate the safety and feasibility of transurethral unipolar ball electrode enucleation of prostate for benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH).Methods:In our study,60 BPH patients were divided randomly into 2 groups including patients underw ent transurethral unipolar ball electrode enucleation of prostate(30 cases)and patients underwent TURP(30 cases).Clinical data including maximum urinary flow rate(Qmax),postvoid residual volume(PVR),international prostate symptom score(IPSS),quality-of-life score(QOL score)were evaluated before and 6 months after operation.Blood loss in operation, operation time, weisht of resected prostate tissue, bladder irrigation time, catheterization time, length of hospital stay and postoperative complications were also collected from the perioperative period. Results:Six months after surgery,PVR,IPSS,QOL and Qmax were all significantly improved in both enucleation and TURP groups compared with the data beforeoperation, while there was no significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05).Patients from the enucleation group showed markedly lower values of blood loss and bladd erirrigating time than that of TURP group(Pīš¤0.01),weisht of resected prostate tissue was significantly less in enucleation group than those of TURP group(P<0.05).The operation time of enucleation group was slightly longer than that of TURP group, but there was no difference(P> 0.05).Length of hospital stay and postoperative complications was no significant difference between the two groups(P> 0.05).No serious complications such as TURS and perforation occurred in both groups. Conclusion:Transurethral unipolar ball electrode enucleation of prostate is feasible, safe and effective, which is a suitable choice in the primary hospitals. |
