Clinical Effect Observation Of Application Of Short Implants In The Posterior Teeth With Insufficient Bone Mass

Objective: To obesrve the clinical effect of short implant when the bone quantity is insufficient in the posterior teeth area.Methods: 40 patients who had undergone short implant surgery in the dental implant center of Affiliated Hospital of Qiingdao University are selected,from January2006 to December 2012.Implantation of Straumann(17),Replace(7),Ankylos(12),Dentis(6),3I(6),osstem(4),BLB(6)and other 7 kinds of implant system,a total of 58 short implants.The second stage of operation was performed about 3-6 months after the operation,and permanent repair was completed after 4-6 weeks.5-10 years of follow-up was also performed.The clinical effect of short implant was observed.Results: Patients undergo regular clinical and imaging examinations after surgery,according to the implant success criteria proposed by Albreksson and Zarb.One patient’s two implants(BLB)have loosen and fallen off after 8 years of implantation;two patients had Peripheral Mucositis;three patients’ crown of the teeth have loosen;one patient’s porcelain teeth have collapsed;these patients have been cured and the teeth have been repaired in time eventually.The rest of the patients had good subjective feelings,high satisfaction.Their bone issue around the short implant had no shadows,which achieved sufficient osseointegration.The dentures were repaired well.The soft tissue inflammation had not occured.After 5-10 years of clinical follow-up,we found that the proximal and distal bone resorption of short implants was 0.57 + 0.29 and 0.58 + 0.27 respectively,and there was no significant meaning(P>0.05)in the comparison: the crown root ratio(>1and <1 two groups),the upper and the lower jaw position,the repair mode(single crown and continuous crown),the connection mode(butt and moser taper).The cumulative success rate of 58 short-implants was 96.6% over the 5 to 10 years.Conclusion: As long as the appropriate indications are selected and the operation is strictly operated,crown-to-root ratio,jaw relationship,repair methods,and connection methods will not affect the success of short implants to a certain extent.By implanting a short implant in the posterior region with relatively insufficient bone mass,it not only shortens the operation time,avoids the trauma of the bone graft surgery,reduces thecomplications,but also eliminates the fear of the patient,relieves the pain,and reduces the operation cost.At the same time,it has achieved a high success rate and is easily accepted by patients.
