Objective:To investigate the association between the ultrasound features of adenomyosis and the clinical symptoms. Methods: 100 cases of adenomyosis diagnosed by gynecology in our hospital were examined by transvaginal ultrasound to observe the ultrasonic characteristics of uterine adenomyosis:(1)Globular configuration(2)Poor definition of the endometrial –myometrial junction(3)Parallel shadowing;(4)Asymmetrical myometrial thickening;(5)Myometrial cysts;(6)Rough echoes of the myometrium;(7)Adenomyomas.Adenomyosis was evaluated by ultrasound score, and each ultrasound feature was recorded as 1point.We recorded the clinical symptoms of each patient, including menstrual pain(A quantitative assessment of menstrual pain was made by completion of a numerical rating scale(NRS)),menorrhagia and intermenstrual hemorrhage to analyze the correlation between every aultrasound feature of adenomyosis and degree of menstrual pain, the correlation between the score of ultrasound features and the score of menstrual pain, and the correlation between menorrhagia, intermenstrual hemorrhage and ultrasound score.Results:(1)The linear regression analysis was carried out by using the ultrasonic score as the independent variable and the dysmenorrhea score as the dependent variable. It showed that there was a significant positive correlation between the two(r=0.598,p=0.000<0.01).(2)The difference between the women with menorrhagia and the women without menorrhagia is statistically significant. There was no statistical difference between the women with intermenstrual hemorrhage and the women without intermenstrual hemorrhage.(3)The two particular ultrasound features of adenomyosis were associated with the degree of menstrual pain: asymmetrical myometrial thickening and an irregular endometria-myometrial junction. Conclusions: The score of ultrasound features was positively correlated with the score of menstrual pain, the ultrasound score of patients with menorrhagia was higher than that of patients without menorrhagia, there was no significant correlation between intermenstrual hemorrhage and ultrasound score.
