Objective The aim of the study was to investigate the treatment effect of raw malt on the risperidone-induced hyperprolactinemia in female rats.We also investigated the treatment effect of raw effect on m RNA expression of prolactin in the pituitary among these female rates.Methods In study 1,fifty rats were divided into physiological saline group(n = 10)and risperidone group(n = 40).The risperidone group were fed with risperidone(0.1 mg﹒kg-1﹒d-1).The physiological saline group were fed with the same volume of physiological saline.After 30 days,serum PRL levels in rats were measured by ELISA.In study 2,the forty rats with successful molds were continuously fed with risperidone(0.1 mg﹒kg-1﹒d-1),and the forty rats were randomly divided into control group and intervention-L,intervention-M,intervention-H group(each group n=10).The intervention group were fed with raw malt(10,20,40 g﹒kg-1﹒d-1).After 45 days,we used ELISA to measure the serum PRL levels in rats.The reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)was used to measure hypophysis PRL m RNA expression.The weight of the rats was recorded.The liver’s viscous coefficient was calculated.Results In study 1,the mains effect of time factor(F=6.677,P=0.013)and between-group factor(F=7.799,P=0.008)were both significant.The interaction effect between time and group was significant(F=12.213,P=0.001),further analysis indiated the increase of prolactin in the risperidone group was significant(P<0.001),but not in physiological saline group.In study 2,the mains effect of time factor was significant(F=14.371,P=0.001).The between-group effect was not significant(F=14.371,P=0.001).The interaction effect between time and group was significant(F=9.918,P=0.003).The effect of the intervention was significant(F=10.343,P=0.003,partial η2=0.228).The between-group effect of the intervention group was not significant(F=0.445,P=0.509).There was no significant difference among the sub-groups in intervention group(P≥0.465).There was no significant difference in weight and liver coefficient between rats(P>0.05).Conclusion Risperidone can increase serum prolactin in female rats.Raw malt can reduce the hyperprolactinemia of female rats induced by risperidone.Rat malt can affect the expression of pituitary prolactin m RNA in female rats.
