The Status Of Social Support In Patients With Schizophrenia And The Qualitative Research On Supporting System

Objective: To study the status of support system in patients with schizophrenia,analyze the needs of support system,and construct the conceptual framework of support system requirements,the interviews was put on the inpatients with schizophrenia.To advance the social support and self-support level for the patients,to further promote the treatment and rehabilitation of patients with schizophrenia,evidence-based theory was provided.Methods: 36 patients with schizophrenia were studied in a psychiatric hospital,and the status of social support system was analyzed.To adopt qualitative research paradigm of grounded theory orientation,preliminary interviews and indepth interviews were conducted by trained researchers.SPSS 16 was applied to describe the data,NVivo11.0 was used to analysis interview materials,to built three level coding,to format thematic analysis.and to conduct the conceptual framework of support system.Results:1.Quantitative study shows that: there is no significant difference between patients with schizophrenia and health community volunteers in total score of social support or objective support.The subjective support of schizophrenic patients(20.50 ? 4.58)is significantly lower than that of the healthy community volunteers(23.22 ? 4.76).thesocial support utilization of schizophrenia patients(7.75 ? 2.41)is significantly higher than that of the volunteers(6.73 ? 1.81).2.Qualitative research results:(1)Preliminary interviews(1)The support system of inpatient with schizophrenic includes three conceptual frameworks: object,type,feedback;The study also shows that schizophrenics face many practical problems.(2)The mainly objects schizophrenia patients demanded from support system are medical institutions,oneself,family and the society.Friendly patients and medical staff are mentioned a lot in medical institutions;self is a important single item;parents and siblings are required most in family;public and biased group are required most in society.(3)The needs of patients mainly includes: self-provided support,subjective support and objective support.Promotion of social function and disease rehabilitation are mentioned most in self-provided support.Additional food and job opportunities are mentioned most in subjective support.Schizophrenia patients found care,accompany and understanding profound.(4)The feedback from schizophrenics is divided into two aspects: positive and negative.Expression of experience and appeals,gratitude and return,hope and wish are mentioned most in positive feedback.Negative feedback includes avoidance and incomprehension,but mentioned little.(5)The practical problems that schizophrenia patients care most mainly include disease,stigma,difficulties in life.Mainly concerns about disease are side effects of drugs,symptoms of disease,inpatient bondage.Difficulties in work and marriage are mentioned most in life difficulties.(2)Indepth interviews(1)Indepth interviews further explored the results of the preliminary interview,providsverification and supplement.Indepth interviews shows that patients have the ability to obtain social support,they can put forward their needs about support system,they have difficulties in returning back to the society and they can tell the mood caused by different daily experience.(2)Patients with schizophrenia have the comprehensive ability to obtain support system,including efficient ability and deficient ability,efficient ability are far greater than deficient ability.The ability to communicate,praise and understand of careness were most reflected.Deficient ability mainly include the lack of willingness to communicate.(3)Patients with schizophrenia have a need toward new institutions and strategies,medical institutions,oneself,families.Within new institutions and strategies,the grading clinics and public service jobs management are mentioned most;in medical institutions,to reduce the side effects of drugs and to improve the environment are demanded strongly;communication and contact with family are strongly mentioned in oneself;in family,the patient strongly demand for ordinary family life.(4)Schizophrenia patients have difficulty in returning back to society: they can hardly get an offer and some patients don't have family or room to return to.The most responsed about the difficulty of finding a job is be discriminated.(5)The daily experience of schizophrenic patients includes positive experiences and negative ones.Communication or reunion with the family,sports and fun are the most mentioned positive experiences,the lack of people oriented model in the management of the ward and marriage misfortune are mentioned mostly in the negative experiences.Conclusion:1.The support system of inpatients with schizophrenia presents universality and generality.2.Patients with schizophrenia face practical problems and difficulties,which will disrupt the normal role general played by the patients' support system.The positivesupport given to the patients will promote the normal operation of the general support system.3.When patients' needs is furfilled,patients will have psychological changes and behaviors rooted in constantly improvement and support given by themselves.
