Health is an important guaranty for people to improve their quality of life, as well as a critical prerequisite for their growth and advancement. In modern society, the health issue has become one of the focuses in many countries and regions in the world. Facing the population aging and the change of human’s spectrum of disease,the World Health Organization (WHO) launched the initiative of establishing a long-term social care system in 2002. As an important component of this initiative, hospice care has become an important and challenging subject in modern medical system. Hospice care for dying patients can alleviate their pains and other symptoms of failure, allowing them to affirm life while regarding death as a normal process at the same time. It neither accelerates nor delays death. By combining with psychological and mental nursing, hospice care provides a support system for patients, such that they could be as active as possible to face death. At the same time, hospice care provides patients’ families with supports to help them deal with the illness of their families and pains due to their deaths. Hospice workers can meet necessary needs from patients and their families, including providing bereavement care after the deaths of patients. The goal of hospice care is to improve the quality of life, but also may affect the progression of disease.Thus, hospice care for dying patients and their relatives is a very meaningful thing, as well as a manifestation of advancement of human. On the other hand, however, hospice care has done far from enough. As a key region of population aging, Hainan Province has to place emphasis on the development of hospice care. But Hainan Province still faces a lot of challenges and even has some problems compared with foreign developed countries or even some places at home. Based on this the paper, the author first analyzes the current situation and background of the development of hospice care in China, as well as the significant of developing hospice care, and summarizes and reviews the research subjects and achievements of researchers at home and abroad; second, a detailed description is given to some theoretical knowledge and concepts related to hospice care in this paper;third, from the perspectives of the government, institution, society, family and patient, the author focuses on the current situation and existing problems of the development of hospice care in Hainan province, and addresses each of these points; fourth, the reasons for the problems in the development of hospice care are analyzed; finally, based on relevant experience and practice at home and abroad, the author puts forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions on promoting the overall development of hospice care in Hainan and China in the hope of providing theoretical basis for the development of the overall development of hospice care in Hainan and China.
