Classification And Evaluation Of Forest Site And Optimization Of Forest Resource In Feixi County

The classification and evaluation of forest site is the basic of forest cultivation,and the status of forest resource is the important evidence for evaluating the sustainable development of forest and the overall function of forest.A total of 48 sample plots were set up in Feixi County to investigate the tree factors and soil factors,consequently classifies and evaluates the forest site of Feixi County.Then analyzing the present situation of forest resources based on the data of forest resources inventory and forest land protection planning in this county.The results are as follows.1.According to the principle of progressive control,the forest site of Feixi County was divided into 3 site sub-region,5 site type groups:Northwest Jianghuai watershed site sub-region(including yellow-cinnamon soil type group and clay pan yellow-cinnamon soil type group),Midwestern hilly site sub-region(including purple soil type group and yellow-cinnamon soil type group),and Southeast plain site sub-region(including moisture soil type group),And 13 standing types such as thin layer yellow--cinnamon soil type,thin layer limestone purple soil type.2.The forest of Feixi County covers an area of 3 5702.5hm2,accounting for 21.06%of all the land area in Feixi with a forest coverage rate at 20.14%.As a whole,there are more planted forests(32569.8hm2,accounting for 99.95%),and less natural forests(14.1 hm2,accounting for 0.05%),more pure forests(32055.5hm2,accounting for 96.22%)and less mixed forests(1258hm2,accounting for 3.778%).3.The major problems of forest resources are as follows:(1)It is short of basic work involving the classification and evaluation of forest site,which leads to unreasonable selection of planted forests species.For example,the planted and pure forests consisted of a few unsuitable tree species such as poplars is the major reason that led to the low stand productivity and ecological function of site distribution subregions in Jianghuai watershed;(2)Low forest coverage and uneven spatial distribution of stands.(3)There are many plantations,few natural forests and monotonous structure of tree species;(4)There are too many pure forests,too few mixed forests,thus caused a low ecological functionality and resistance of stands.(5)Advancement of the operating level is needed owing to an extensive forest management.(6)The total amount of forest resources increases slowly,and the situation of resource management and protection is still tough.4.To sum up,there are three planning areas:water and soil conservation functional area in the Jianghuai watershed in the Northwest,ecological protection functional area in the central scenic forest,and water conservation forest function in the Southeast.Protecting public welfare forest and commercial forest diversely based on their difference.Adjusting the tree species structure of natural forest and planted forest scientifically based on the results of forest site classification and evaluation.Then taking different protection measures according to the forest quality level.With increasing forest cover as an important goal and approach especially in the North and South.Optimizing the spatial structure of forest resources is an important way to optimize the forest resources in feixi county.
