| This experiment was to study the effects of medium-chain triglycerides(MCTs)in the weight gain and serum thyroid hormones concentrations on ducklingin the way of drinking water added MCTs.48 five-day old ducklings were randomly divided into three groups,each group 16 respectively,that were control group(0 MCTs added to drinking water),low doses of MCTs group(1g/L drinking water)and high doses of MCTs group(3g/L drinking water),trial period for 20 days.Record food intake of each group,and ducklings’ weight with emp-ty stomach on 0th,5th,10th,15th,20thdays.After slaughtering,the weights of semi-eviscerated weight,heart,liver,cholecyst,spleen,abdominal fat,pancreas,duodenum,jejunum and ileum,glandular stomach,muscular stomach,bursa fabricius,thymus,musculus gastrocnemius were measured and the intaked food and water of each group were recorded.The food-weight ratio and average body-weight,average weight gain,average weight gain rate of every group on 0th,5th,10th,15th,20th days and average weight,average organs index of every group duckling were counted.The effects of MCTs were considered with above factors.The results showed that the body weight,food intake,food-weight ratio of the low and high dose groups had no significant difference compared with the control groups.The weight gain rates of ducklings in experiment groups had a trend of accelerating in the first five days and then decreased in 6-10 days,and repeated these waving pattern in 11-20 days compared with the control group.Average organ weight average organ indexes had no significant difference except for the thymus.Serum samples of duckling were taken at 5th,10th,15th and 20th day of the trial period and T4,T3 and rT3 concentrations were assessed with radioactive immunity analysis method to study changes of T4,T3 and rT3 concentrations following added MCTs in drinking water.The results showed that serum rT3 levels were significantly increased on 5th day compared with the control group.T3 and rT3 concentrations of the MCTs added groups were significantly increased on 10th day comparative with the control group.rT3 concentrations were signif1cantly increased on 15th day compared with the control group.T3,T4 and rT3 concentrations of the MCTs added groups were significantly increased on 20th day.The T3 and T4 concentrations of ducklings in experiment groups had a trend of accelerating in the first ten days and then decreased in 10-15 days,and repeated these waving patterns in 1v-20days compared with the control group.Serum samples of duckling were taken on 20th day of the trial period and glucose,total triglycerides and 3-hydroxybutyric concentrations were assessed to observe the changes of glucose,total triglycerndes and p-hydroxybutyric concentrations following drinking of MCTs-added water.The present results showed that the differences of sermm glucose,total triglycerides and β-hydroxybutyric concentrations of the experimental groups were not significant on 20th day compared with the control group,which suggested the applications of MCTs in duckling breeding industry were secure and feasible.The changes of the levels of thyroid hormones suggested that the liver had involved the changing of the levels of thyroid hormones and affected the body weight gains following taking of MCTs in the way of drinking water added MCTs.The results provided references for reserching the MCTs activity mechanism in poultry and at the same time,provided clues to study the effects of liver on body growth regulation. |
