Effects Of Temperature And Medicines On The Motility Of Small Intestine In Horses And Rabbits And Case Analysis Of Equine Acute Abdomen

Acute abdomen is happened in horses due to sudden changes in temperature or management in feeding,and the horses are dead if diagnosis and treatment are not timely.In the present study,effect of temperature changes on gastrointestinal motility in monogastric herbivore was explored,and the effect of extract from herbs and analgin on the motility of small intestine of horse was determined.Firstly,the effects of different temperature of the organ bath on the smooth muscle of isolated duodenum,jejunum and ileum in horses and/or rabbits were measured by a biological signal processing system.The results showed that the contraction frequency and amplitude of the equine duodenum decreased and the tension increased(P < 0.05)when the temperature of the bath was reduced from 38 ℃ to 32 ℃,then the contraction of the duodenum was recovered when the temperature of the bath was increased from 32 ℃ to 38 ℃;When the temperature of the bath was elevated from 38 ℃ to 41 ℃,the amplitude was increased and the frequency was slower,and the contraction was recoverable when the temperature recovered to 38 ℃.When the temperature varied between 39 ℃ and 32 ℃,the contraction frequency of duodenum and jejunum in rabbits was positively correlated with the temperature changes,while the contraction amplitude and tension were negatively correlated;however,only the frequency of ileum was positively correlated with temperature changes.When the temperature increased from 39 ℃ to 42 ℃,the change of duodenal contraction in rabbits was the same as that of temperature at 39 ℃ and 32 ℃,but the contraction of jejunum and ileum were irregular when the temperature from 42 ℃ to 39 ℃;the contraction of small intestine could not be recovered.Secondly,the effects of herbal medicine(Chenpi and Citrus aurantium)and its water extracted compound and analgin on the motility of equine small intestine were measured by biological signal processing system.The results showed that the contraction amplitude and systolic tension of the small intestine were significantly decreased(P < 0.05)compared with before treatment when the compound concentration arrived 128 μL/mL.(P < 0.05).When the concentration of Chenpi was 32 μL/mL and 64 μL/mL,the tension was decreased(P < 0.05),and the amplitude at 64 μL/mL was decreased.When the concentration of Citrus aurantium arrived 32 μL/mL,the tension and frequency were decreased.When the concentration of analgin arrived 8 μg/mL,the amplitude was weakened;and the motility of small intestine at 64 μg/mL was completely inhibited.The motility of small intestine could be recovered after three times wash.Finally,7 acute abdomen cases from horse were analyzed and treated.Seven cases horses were healed.Equine acute abdomen can be treated by herbs and medicines,and medicine treatment of acute abdomen is better than that of herbs.There was no significant change in blood glucose,while lactate concentration(36.9±7.2 mg/dL)was significantly increased during acute abdomen.The motility of small intestine from horses and rabbits were stronger when the body temperature is lower than normal,and was weaker when the body temperature is higher than normal.The medicines used in the present study reduce the motility of small intestine,indicating that these medicines are expected to use for alleviating equine acute abdomen.
