As a pioneer of China's economic development, the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration supports 11%of the population with only 2%of the country's land area, achieving nearly a quarter of the country's total economic volume. However,in the process of rapid urbanization, along with the population aggregation effect of the central cities of the Yangtze River Delta,excessive,low-quality,and uneven consumption behaviors have been generated, which has further caused excessive emissions of pollutants inside the city. The environment of the Yangtze River Delta has been in a state of high load for a long time, and the contradiction between ecology and development has become prominent, and it has gradually become a severely affected area of haze.In order to reduce the health hazards and economic losses caused by haze pollution, governance needs multi-dimensional and long-term advancement. The main research work of this paper is as follows:The first is the study of the spatiotemporal characteristics and evolution of haze pollution in the Yangtze River Delta. In this paper, the PM2.5.5 satellite monitoring data of Columbia University is used as a sample to investigate the spatiotemporal characteristics and evolution of haze pollution in the Yangtze River Delta.Overall,Jiangsu has the highest pollution level, followed by Anhui, and Zhejiang has a lighter situation.Among provincial capital cities,Nanjing has the most severe haze pollution, followed by Shanghai and Hefei, and Hangzhou has the lowest PM2.5.The second is the research on the impact mechanism of haze in the Yangtze River Delta. This article starts from the end of human activities, that is,consumer behavior, constructs a comprehensive evaluation system of consumer behavior with consumption scale, consumption quality, and consumption structure as the main content, analyzes the impact of urban residents'consumption behavior on the haze in the Yangtze River Delta, and analyzes the industrial structure and economy openness is used as a control variable.First, using the panel data of the 26 cities in the Yangtze River Delta from 2006 to 2016,a stepwise regression method was used to select the significant variables of consumption behavior.Secondly, according to the average growth rate of PM2.5,26 cities were divided into two categories?high pollution areas:Xuancheng,Zhenjiang and other 15 cities;low pollution areas:Suzhou,Taizhou and other 11 cities?,and a sub-sample empirical analysis was carried out. Finally, based on the regression results, combined with the endowments of the cities in the Yangtze River Delta and the actual economic and social development, put forward feasible suggestions for haze control. The main conclusions of this article are as follows:First, the total retail sales of consumer goods in the consumption scale have a positive effect on haze pollution.Second, the per capita disposable income of cities in the quality of consumption has crossed the inflection point of the Kuznets curve, and its growth is conducive to reducing haze.A further sub-sample study on PM2.5.5 found that the per capita living area of cities in low-pollution cities can help alleviate haze pollution. The city's per capita energy consumption has the largest positive contribution to PM2.5.Third,in the consumption structure, the average number of household cars owned per 100 urban residents at the end of the year?family structure?has a significant positive effect on haze pollution, and the Engel coefficient?urban structure?has a suppressive effect on PM2.5.Based on empirical research,it is recommended to promote haze control from the following aspects. One is to improve the haze management and control system and form a governance system for residents. The second is to rationally regulate the growth of urban permanent population and the expansion of consumption scale, exert the suppression effect of consumption scale on haze, avoid excessive growth of urban permanent population and lead to environmental overload, and promote high-quality green and clean consumption patterns. The third is to enhance economic development and technological innovation capabilities, improve consumption quality, and promote clean energy industrialization and marketization. Finally, strengthen collaboration between cities and regions, optimize consumption structure, reduce smog emissions, and form a long-term coordination mechanism for smog control in the Yangtze River Delta.
