In this paper,we functionalized palladium nanoparticles with small organic molecule,such as 1-dodecyne and 1-ethynylpyrene,etc.and the Pd-organic interfacial bondingand the charge delocalization through such conjugated interfacial bonds were studied in details.Furthermore,the Pd Ru alloy nanoparticles of solid solution in atomic scalewere prepared,characterized and used as anodic catalyst for formic acid and methanol oxidation.T he composition and size effect of Pd Ru alloynanomaterials on catalytic performance have been examined in details.(1)To prepared the small organic molecule modified palladium nanoparticles,palladium acetate was used as the precursor,1,2-propanediol as solvent and reducing agent,toluene as a second solvent and small organic molecules served as the capping ligand in the reaction system.The small organic molecule modified palladium nanoparticles were synthesized in one step by heating the solution at 60 degree.In addition,the photochemical properties of such palladium nanoparticles were characterized by infrared,ultraviolet,fluorescence spectroscopy etc and found that charge delocalization occurredat the interface through Pd=C=C interfacial bonds,leading to photochemical properties of Pd nanoparticles.(2)Pd Ru alloy nanoparticles were prepared by polyol thermal reduction method in one step reaction,with metal salt as a precursor,triethylene glycol as solvent and reducing agent and polyvinylpyrrolidone(PVP)as a protective agent.By tuning the atomic ratio of palladium to ruthenium and the molar ratio of precursor to protective agent,respectively,Pd Ru alloy nanoparticles with different composition and different sizes of nanoparticles but the same elemental composition were prepared.Through characterizations of HRTEM,XPS,XRD and elemental mapping,Pd Ru alloy nanoparticles were confirmed to be solid solutions in atomic scale.In addition,the electrocatalytic activity of Pd Ru alloy nanoparticles towards formic acid methanol oxidation strongly depend on the elemental composition and size of the alloy nanoparticles,which significantly outperformance commercial Pd/C.
