Emoticons as a new network language was gaining increasing attentions as one of the essential elements of communication which was confirmed as one of the key factors affecting the virtual team.Academia define the Virtual Team as a team working totally depends modern technologies.Thus,the effective communication is necessary in Virtual Team.However,the communication way with text purely in Virtual Team limit the expression of emotions,so there need the replacement and the supplement functions of Emoticons.As the emoticons spreading on the Internet,there's an increasing number of people try to express the certain information with emoticons.Present research on emoticons still stay around the angle of linguistics to exploring the significance of existence or analyzing the user characteristics by means of text excavation,and lacking the research on the impact of emoticons during communication.Considering the application of emoticons in network communications,we try to verify the relationships between emoticons,emotion perception and team performance in virtual team by the experimental approach.And after exploring the impact of emoticons,we hope it can be confirmed to providing the better communication strategy for the virtual team to improve the team performance.By using the different emoticons will make individual feel the different positive or negative emotions,the factor of emotion as the intervening variable will affect the entire team performance,and the different task such as cooperation and competition will affect the team performance through affecting the individual to make the different decisions in certain emotion perception.The experiments performed 60 times,adopted 2×3 factors design which emoticons(positive/none/negative)and task(cooperation/competition)as the independent variable,personal satisfaction and task performance as the dependent variable,was confirmed the correlativity between emoticons,emotion perception and team performance in the process of communication,the different decisions when receiving the same emoticons in different task and the regulating effects of emotional intelligence.On the basis of the former researches,we reached the following conclusions by theoretical analysis and experimental measurement:1.Using the positive emoticons make the individual received more positive emotion perception and improve the personal satisfaction.2.Using the negative emoticons make the individual received more negative emotion perception,deteriorate the task performance and personal satisfaction.3.Compared with cooperation task,emoticons have a less impact on task performance and personal satisfaction in the competition task.4.Experimental results verify the regulating effect of emotional intelligence when perceiving the negative emotion.This paper confirmed the effects of emoticons on the team managements and the correlativity with the other factors,makes up the present theory regarding the emoticons.The conclusions of this study have a certain significance on both the business organization rely on the modern communication technology as the communication media and daily network communication.
