Late 19th century, as the imperialist countries invaded Korea, the Korean national crisis dramatically got intensified. The noted Korean Enlightenment thinkers and the first Korean-American Seo Jae-pil took a series of steps to save the nation almost through the entire modern history of Korea. By his efforts, the creation of the Independence and the Independent Club caused positive effects on modern diplomacy of Korea, and what he did forced the Korean government to alter its policy to safeguard its sovereignty. During the "March 1 Movement", Seo Jae-pil took active lobbying diplomacy in the United States and he joined the Korean independence movement. Those diplomatic activities urged foreign powers to change their foreign policies on Korea. |
