Objective: The purpose of the present article was to investigate the effect of 3,9-dimeth-ylene-1,5,7,11-tetraoxa-spiro[5,5]undecane(BMSOC)on wear behavior of a novel dental composite resin material.Combined the analyzed of wear surface of the resins to exploring the friction and wear mechanisims of composite resins and contributed to developping and improving the mechanical properties of dental resins based on experimental evidence.Methods: The microfilled composite experiments were made with Diglycidyldimethacr ylate(Bis-GMA)/Triethylene glycol dimethacrylate(TEGDMA)(70/30,wt/wt)as resin matrix reinforced with silica macroparticals as filler.Camphorquinone(CQ)/2-(Dimethylamino)eth-ylmethacrylate(DMAEMA)(1wt%/2wt%)as traditional initiation system,with or without BMSOC are separate group A and group B,CQ/DMAEMA/DPIHFP(diphenyliodonium hexafl uorophosphate)(1wt%/2 wt%/2wt%)as three-component initiation system,group C is consisted epoxycyclohexane carboxylate(epoxy)modified by BMSOC and group D without BMSOC and epoxy.FiltekTMZ350、Clearfil AP-X are served as reference materials belongin-g to two different commercial materials.The three-body wear test was performed by the DCW-1.Maximum wear depth,volume loss and surface roughness of worn surfaces were measured at the end of 200,400,600,800 wear cycles and were statistically compared using one-way analysis of variance(ANOVA)followed by Tukey’s Honestly Significant Differ-ence(HSD)test(P<0.001).SEM evalution of the worn specimens and anylazed the wear mechanism.The Pearson correlation test was performed between the surface roughness change and wear(P<0.001).Results: Wear of experiment materials increased with wear cycles.Wear of experiment materials increased with wear cycles.FiltekTMZ350 has the lowest wear volume loss(14.5571±1.5059)mm3.The wear of group B is the most(79.7713±3.0986)mm3.The volumetric wear data and depth loss data between group A and group B based on two photoinitiator system and group C and group D based on three photoinitiator system are no significance(P>0.05).Roughness data ranged between 0.51μm to 0.93μm.Regression analysis showed no significant correlations between volume loss,vertical loss and surface roughness(r=-0.083).The abrasion surface morphology of Filtek TMZ350 and Clearfil AP-X is characteristiced by smooth and uniform.The rest of the resins is rough.The wear surfaceof the resins under the three photoinitiator system are denser than under the traditional system.Conclusion:1.The incorporation of expand monomer with the ratio of Bis-GMA/(epoxy+SOC):40/60 in this article,we can conclude that there are no significant effects between groups with and without expand monomer based on the same photoinitiator system.It maybe because the unreacted expand monomer can lead to defects formation and that may influence the wear behavior of the noval resin.2.The three photoinitiator system consist of diphenyliodonium salt and CQ 、DMAEMA play a more importance role in increase the wear resistance of resin compared to traditional photoinitiator system without DPIHFP.This may because cationic initiate ring open reaction enhance the degree of conversion of double bond,decrease the volume shrinkage and properly cured and improve the mechanical properties and wear resistance.3.Nano-filler resin composite is superior to other groups in respect to wear resistance.The surface performance promote the filler to resin close integration and increase the filler volume fraction with decrease particle gaps combined with large filler.The better mechanical properties influence the wear behavior consequently.
