IoT,an abbreviation of Internet of Things,is developing in an amazing speed during past ten years.IoT represents a network consisting of the connected objects including telecommunication devices,sensors,and vehicles with embedded electronics allowing the devices exchange data directly with each other in the network.In the market,the home automation systems are widely deployed: heating,ventilation and air conditioning(HVAC);Lighting control system;appliance control and integration with the smart grid and a smart meter;a household security system integrated with a home automation system can provide additional services such as remote surveillance of security cameras over the Internet;leak detection,smoke and CO detectors.Besides a variety of products of Smart Home,multiple protocols and connectivity technologies are used for Smart Home.Popular suites of products include X10,Z-Wave,and Zigbee all of which are incompatible with each other.In fact,there is no single universal protocol dominating the market.Comparing with other protocols used in Smart Home,Thread,which is the newest technology in the market,has a distinguishing advantage that it is an IP-based protocol which makes it easy to implement combining with the existing Internet or other IP-based network.In the Smart Home context,Thread,an IPv6-based protocol for Internet of Things "smart" allows household devices to communicate on a network having main characteristics include: support of mesh network topology,IP-based stack,open protocol,simplicity,security,based on existing radio silicon.Considering the accelerating development of the domain of Internet of things as well as the mentioned advantages of Thread technology,this essay is to explore the IoT technology especially Thread technology,study and analyze its network topology,network components,network construction methods,network maintaining procedure and so on.Comparing with the exiting IoT technologies,this essay firstly introduces Thread technology's overview including its evolution these years,the main characteristics and advantage.Then the principal technologies that are employed by Thread technology's will be presented as well as its adaptation according to Thread network's need.With the EM35 x development kit provided by Silicon Labs,several tests scenarios including one Server and one Client scenario,Server,Client and Sleep Client scenario,one Server and two Client scenario and the Border Router and Sensor scenario.In each case,the process of establishment of Thread network was analyzed.In addition,as a main advantage of Thread network,the no single point failure feature was also examined in the tests to check how the network reacts and rebuilds the remaining links.The obtained results indicate that Thread network is resilient and routes are updated automatically in the case of the failure of essential nodes(for example the Leader)proving the Thread network's robustness.Moreover,we tested the connection not only just inside the Thread network but also the interaction between interior and exterior nodes.Using the Border Router,the communication between Thread network and Local IPv6 network which worked smoothly,which demonstrates the the possibility of interoperation with Thread network and IPv6 internet.
