The Study Of Impact Of The Social Networking Sites On The Information Dissemination On The Example Of Twitter

Social networking sites are Internet-based interactive communication platforms that by the means of new technologies infiltrated online communications,created efficient and effective channels to access and exchange information,integrated processes of resource sharing and interpersonal interaction and revolutionized the whole process of information dissemination.Characteristics such as interactive mode and instant message transmission,as well as rapid dissemination and abundance of available information,make social networking sites very popular among the users and play increasingly important role in online activities of modern society.This research takes Twitter as a study model to analyze the role of social networking sites in information dissemination from the perspective of communication studies.Twitter is one of the most influential social networking sites in the world,and due to the definite distinctness of its features,this research is being conducted from three different angles,analyzing the content,communication value and functions of the medium.This research argues that the timeliness and interactive features boost the popularity of social networking sites among general public,and bring them to the attention of governments and large enterprises.At the same time,support of multimedia content,like images,audio and video recordings and shortened URLs,increases Twitter's proliferation effect and promotes participatory journalism among the former audience.By simplifying the whole process of communication,Twitter encourages everyone,from individuals to big enterprises and governments to join the conversation;therefore it is realizing direct interactive communications between representatives of different population stratums and maximizing the effect of information propagation.Further this study points out that absence of the censorship function in modern social networking sites structure can bring into the life of individuals,function of enterprises,governments,and overall society some serious problems,such as public opinion manipulation,dissemination of abusive language and pornographic content.Finally,this work analyzes the deficiencies and shortcomings of current social networking sites in the context of new media environment and emphasizes that the consequences of uncontrolled dissemination of fragmented information require governments to assess technology and information security standards and determine priorities to improve the current situation.
