The slot waveguide can significantly confine the guided wave in its low-index slot,so it has great application potentials in the areas,such as nonlinear optics,micronano optical sensing,photonic devices,etc.Firstly,in this thesis,referring to the four types of modes in the planar slotted waveguides,we solve the modes of 3D slot waveguides of different parameters and find that the four types of modes,which are cosh-,sinh-,cos-and sin-types,also exist in the 3D slot waveguides.And then we calculate and analyze the influence of the structural parameters of the 3D slot waveguides on their modal characteristics,number of modes and confinement factor.Finally,we construct the effective index method to solve the 3D slot waveguide,and compare the results solved by this method with those by the finite element method and then analyze the main source of the errors of the effective index method.This thesis may provide a useful reference for better understanding and utilizing the slot waveguides.
