The development of Web2.0 drives the convergence of emerging technologies, which spawned a variety of new social media, created new ways of content creation and dissemination. UGC can be released in real-time, which was interactivity, extensiveness and richness, and has greatly stimulate the social media activity, and contains a huge commercial value. On the other hand, it also bring about a series of legal issues, including copyright, affecting the user's creative passion and social media's communication environment.This paper analyzes the causes of the copyright of User-generated content in the social media platform from the perspective of 5W mode of communication, as well as the current status of domestic social media UGC copyright protection, and puts forward the corresponding countermeasures and suggestions. And the full text is divided into five chapters.Chapter 1: Introduction. This chapter expounds the origin of the study, communication theory and research methods. Explains important concepts such as user-generated content, social media, and copyrights, as well as the research scope of this paper.Chapter 2: This chapter analyzes the characteristics of UGC copyright and the related research status. According to the dissemination of content, communication channels, means of transmission, and disseminator, sort out the types of UGC copyright infringement in social media.Chapter 3: This chapter analyzes the cause of the copyright infringement of the social media UGC in the process of communication from the perspective of communication, including the UGC author, social platform, UGC content itself, the audience and UGC dissemination.Chapter 4: This chapter analyzes the present situation and existing problems of UGC copyright protection from four aspects: the main users,UGC social platform, legal administration and other copyright institutions.UGC original authors are at a disadvantage, the protection of the law is inadequate, social platform and UGC copyright trading market also needs to be standardized.Chapter 5: This chapter puts forward some suggestions on how to protect the copyright of UGC from the perspective of user, social platform itself, administrative legislation and the third-party copyright institution.
