In this paper, a software based on simulation of underwater communication is designed for the information exchange between AUV and the mothership. The software can be customized for AUV functions such as navigation task, the sound field prediction, synthesis of received waveform documents and signaling. The main task of this paper are as follows:The first part presents the frequency hopping technology in AUV communication system, including the composition and the principle of the systems and the generation of the hop pattern, as well as the computer based simulation for frequency hopping spread spectrum principles.The second part is about the general design of the software combined with the requirements of communication system and the ability of sound field prediction. A human-computer interaction interface is design with LabWindows/CVI. Paper describes in detail the design and implement of the simulation configurations and external IO functions.Simulation configuration function includes the configuration of simulation task, as well as the design and implement of underwater acoustic channel simulation block. A way to achieve the sound field prediction is detailed presented using hybrid programming with LabWindows/CVI and Matlab calling BELLHOP model channel simulation block. External IO function Serial containes the serial communication with RS-232, as well as the synthesis and transmition of the singal. Segmented convolution algorithm based on overlap-convolution method is used to effectively solve the slow response problem during data processing caused by the massive data's reqirement of large memory. The technology mentioned above not only helps to improve the performance of the software, but also provides new ideas for the development of similar softwares.The AUV communication system simulation software completed its functional goal,and runs well in the library with the hardware part alignment. Algorithms used in the data processing part are also effective and feasible.
