Photonic crystal fiber is a kind of micro structure fiber that the periodic arrangement of air holes in the fiber core around, having endlessly single mode, low loss and also can carry on the micro structure design transformation and so on, has attracted much attention in recent years. But once the photonic crystal fiber is drawn, the transmission characteristics will not change, which limits its application range to a great extent. Therefore, the liquid material is filled in the air holes of the photonic crystal fiber cladding layer, and the flexible control of the transmission spectrum is realized by changing the external environment.In this paper, refractive index isotropic liquid is filled in the air hole of the photonic crystal fiber and the simulation is carried out, the dispersion zero and band gap are found in the output spectrum, this has great potential for reducing the dispersion to improve the quality of transmission and the application in the field of filtering. Theoretical analysis and research on the transmission properties of photonic crystal fibers with different refractive index and anisotropic liquid are also studied, and carries on the simulation analysis to them ,from effective refraction rate, birefringence, dispersion, confinement loss and effective modal area such as multiple aspects of these filling fiber comparative analysis, found the filled photonic crystal fiber with more superior characteristics compared to conventional optical fiber, such as filtering characteristics, tunable properties and so on.At the end of this paper, the air hole of photonic crystal fiber is filled with the capillary phenomenon, taking liquid crystal fill the air holes in the photonic crystal fiber, and the experiments of filling liquid crystal photonic crystal fiber are carried out. Liquid crystal molecules are anisotropic,and very sensitive to changes in external conditions,when the external conditions of liquid crystal changes, such as temperature, electric field, magnetic field and so on, the optical properties will be changed accordingly. So the experiment uses this kind of characteristic of liquid crystal, by changing and controlling the external conditions of the filled optical fiber, we can adjust the photonic crystal fiber filled with liquid crystal, thus the transmission properties of the filled photonic crystal fiber are changed. The results show that the liquid crystal has a significant influence on the photonic crystal fiber, the experimental idea is feasible.
