In recent years,the fine pixel pitch LED display has been rapidly developed and widely applied to various industries.Driver IC has a very important role in the fine pixel pitch LED display system,and is able to obtain good constant current by controlling the drive control circuit.The constant current can get a purpose of showing exquisite and elegant image or video information.For this reason,the driver IC design is the key to get a good picture quality and the good performance of LED display.The display quality is embodied in the refresh rate and grayscale two indicators.In view of this,this paper designed a ICN2053 driver chip with high refresh and high grayscale features meet the fine pixel pitch LED display screen demands.(1)For the common problems of the fine pixel pitch LED display screen,such as the following ghost,the first line of dark,uneven brightness,open road cross,pitting and other phenomena.Based on the existing analog circuit which output the constant current,This paper presents a series of solutions.Having a RTL design of the digital circult of the chip combined with Verilog hardware description language by the 16-channel ICN2053 driver chip research,and with the help of some special functional modules,such as pre-charging circuit module,open circuit detection,current gain adjustment,PWM Optimization,etc.,they will be able to solve these common problems.(2)For the ref-resh rate problem,this design uses a new PWM mode of Scrambled-PWM(SPWM).There are the input gray data processing and optimization by the built-in dual SRAM storage mode,compared with the traditional drive chip,they can obsolutely improve the refresh rate of the display screen.In addition,ICN2053 chip has a number of instructions and configuration registers to achieve more control and functions,such as achieving the adjustable of scattered group's number,and different groups can achieve a different refresh rate.It is conducive to choose a different way for controlling the LED display,so as to get the most appropriate display.ICN2053 chip refresh rate up to 30720Hz,can make the display effectively to avoid flicker and the occurrence of streaks under high-speed photography and other undesirable phenomena.(3)For the grayscale problem,ICN2053 chip support 1 to 32 lines scan,and can achieve 16-bit 65536 gray-scale data output display by the use of gray clock GCLK count sampling,theoretically support full-color display 281 trillion colors.At the same time,ICN2053 chip support low gray pulse width optimization,has a very good low gray display,which is very important for the fine pixel pitch LED display screen.This makes the display still can show high gray-scale characteristics at low brightness.In this paper,the ICN2053 chip design uses a top-down design method,based on the functional framework.We can get a Ntelist by the module division,the RTL design,simulation,synthesis and other steps,and then achieve the chip layout and tapeout by the plancement and routing.Finally,through the sample simulation and experimental test of ICN2053 chip,the results basically meet the design requirements,and the conclusion that ICN2053 driver chip has high refresh rate,high gray scale characteristic and good low gray display effect.It can perfectly support the fine pixel pitch LED display screen work,and does't show up for quality problems.
