Research On Product Design Evaluation Based On Immersive Virtual Reality Technology

With the development of economy, there is an increasingly wide perception that design is the core strength that can enable enterprises to gain steady profits and keep long term competitive advantage. Design evaluation plays an important role in the numerous significant decisions that generated from product development. In the era of booming economy and technology, traditional way of product evaluation is far from meeting customers' demands in emotion, diversification and shorter product life-cycle. Therefore, it's necessary to establish a design evaluation system that is more customer demand-driven, more efficient and more web-based.In this article, analysis and research are conducted first on the virtual reality(VR) technology and existing product evaluation system, combined with the development trend of product design, exploring the significance of using VR technology in product evaluation field. Then, on the one hand, based on Kansei Engineering as its theory, using Likert-type scale, SPSS analysis method and quantitative statistics to establish the evaluation index model of the evaluated products. On the other hand, based on virtual reality technology as its technical support, using Solid Works, 3d Max and unity3 D to create digital model and design the virtual interaction, researching the construction method of immersive virtual evaluation system. Then, this paper make study of the evaluation object, evaluation content, evaluation method, evaluation platform and the performance of evaluation results, in order to construct the framework of this new product evaluation system. At last, using specific product case to validate the rationality of this new system, and suggesting some modifications to the product.Based on the fact that we put customers' sensibility first in our product design evaluation system based on Immersive VR technology, we introduce product using environment and display of its using process, and focus more on customers' emotional feeling from using the products, making evaluation more market-and-customers-oriented. Meanwhile, the entirely virtualized and web-based evaluation process make it more effective and refrain from time and region, vigorously saving its time and economic cost, and improving its competitiveness. Designers can make real-time feedback and modification during the evaluation process by referring to the product evaluation results directly showed in the form of graph.With the development of technology, the product evaluation system will be implemented gradually. The product design evaluation system based on Immersive VR technology serves as a new platform in communication and interaction between designers and customers.
