Due to the worsening electromagnetic environment, response analysis and computation of transmission line system with EMF excitation have been an important issue in field of computational electromagnetic and electromagnetic compatibility. The main objective of this work is to study the response of transmission line system, especially for two types of transmission-line structure: two-wire transmission line and PCB with many traces. This paper analyzes the coupling approaches of linearly polarized plane wave, so the response computation are derived by applying the equivalent model and modified BLT equation. Numerical simulations are given to indicate validation of our analytic method. The magnitude and propagation characteristic of the response caused by plane wave are find, which have practical significance in electromagnetic protection. The research of external field excitation are divided by several steps: the decomposition of external field, extraction method of distributed parameters, the derivation of transmission line equation, equation solving skills and the modified BLT model.1?For two-wire transmission line, the decomposition of external filed is given by using the concept of azimuth angle and polarization angle. For PCB with complex structure, the reflection coefficient is promoted to the generalized reflection coefficient, so the decomposition of equivalent field is given.2?The extraction method of distributed parameters are foundation of response analysis. This article gives analytical expressions of distributed parameters of transmission line which has a general structure, and for one type of unparallel transmission line, the numerical calculation method of distributed parameters are derived by using the physical meaning of circuit parameters and integral process.3?We study the response of PCB which is excited by polarized plane wave. The equivalent multi-conductor transmission line model is obtained by matching circuit quantities with respect to PCB. After the equivalent parameters are calculated by given formulas and excitation field are decomposed, the response are calculated by using the modified BLT model and multi-conductor transmission line equation.4?The simulation are taken to examine our analytic method. Experimental results show that our method has a good fitting in time domain and frequency domain, and further verify the validation of the model. Conclusions are as follow: excitation voltage with one volt induced response voltage with 10-3 voltage; induced voltages have zero point in time domain and frequency domain, all these zero point are related to the structure of transmission line;the simulated results of two PCB traces show that the crosstalk voltage of the coupling trace is stronger than that of the distributed trace at the terminal loads.
