Real-time image processing technology is widely used. On one hand,processing a large amount of data requires a high speed system; On the other hand,dealing with different application areas means that the system requires flexibility. FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) are high-speed, parallel, programmable, reconfigurable and flexible and have a unique advantage in the real-time image processing domain.This paper presents a real-time image processing system based on FPGA. The system uses Altera's EP2C8Q208C8 N chip as the core processor components, CMOS camera as a real-time image input source and VGA as a real-time image output interface. In hardware design, we first make the device selection, then design schematic such as power and reset, clock, FPGA configuration, SDRAM and VGA module, finally complete the PCB design. In logic design, based on QuartusII, We use FPGA to realize real-time image acquisition, display and design a kind of real-time image processing IO interface based on Streaming-FIFO. The interface has a very clear and simple structure, has small coupling with front-end(capturing real-time image) and back-end(displaying output module). Real-time image processing algorithms can be embedded in the platform without modifying front-end and back-end. Finally, according to the characteristics of FPGA structural, we implement several algorithms which are suitable for hardware image processing to study and implement, and verify them on the system.The system interface is simple, extensible. We can use hardware description language to model variety of digital image processing algorithms, then simulate and verify them based on this system. The design of the system has a certain research and use value.
